Eddie Alvarez (29-5) vs Dustin Poirier (23-5) gives us a rematch of a fight that turned bizarre when these two met the first time. Poirier was rolling to a victory on points but then things fell off the table when Alvarez delivered an illegal knee that brought the bout to an end as a no-contest, and they’ve been waiting to settle things since then. In that first fight, Poirier was leading significantly in strikes and went for a pair of attempts at submission, putting him way ahead on the cards. It wasn’t just the knee that represented a reversal of fortune, as Alvarez had started to chip away at the point lead. Alvarez had put away Justin Gaethje more quickly than Poirier could, but Poirier has the advantage of reach and has more technical skill and quickness. Alvarez takes a ton of punches, and he likes to come back from a deficit. However, Poirier is going to give Alvarez everything he wants — and then some. UFC Odds Prediction: Poirier wins via decision Jordan Mein (30-12) vs Alex Morono (14-4) gives us a fighter really in need of some redemption in Mein, as he retired after Thiago Alves beat him via knockout, but came back almost two years later and took two decision losses against Emil Meek and Belal Muhammad. However, at UFC on FOX 26, he took a decision victory against Erick Silva. Of his 30 wins overall, 23 have come by stoppage, and 16 of those by knockout. He faces Morono, who started out with two upsets of James Moontasri and Kyle Noke, but then he lost to Niko Prince (later overturned) and then lost via split decision to Keita Nakamura. However, he pulled off a stoppage win of Josh Burkman back in February. Can Mein fight up to his potential? He brings dynamic power with his strikes, but his mental presence isn’t always there. For that reason, I’m not sure he remains engaged against Morono. UFC Odds Prediction: Morona wins via decision Hakeem Dawodu (7-1-1) vs Austin Arnett (15-4) features a devastating World Series of Fighting (WSOF) pugilist in Dawodu, who entered his UFC debut against Danny Henry as a big favorite. However, it only took 39 seconds for Henry to send Dawodu to the ground and deliver a guillotine to end the fight. Austin Arnett lost to Brandon Davis on Tuesday Night Contender Series but still got a call to UFC five months later. However, he took a second-round stoppage loss to Cory Sandhagen in his UFC debut. While Dawodu also had an awful debut, his offensive striking is powerful, and he can counter the grapple effectively. Arnett has taken losses against some real tomato cans, and I see Dawodu delivering punishment early. UFC Odds Prediction: Dawodu wins via knockout
