US Open Odds for Women’s and Men’s Singles in Semifinals Matchups

Written by on September 8, 2023

American Madison Keys was last in a U.S. Open final in 2017, but she is on the doorstep again after running over Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova, 6-1, 6-4, to get to the women’s semifinals at Flushing Meadows. She faced nine break points but won all of them. This is her sixth appearance in a Grand Slam semifinal and her third at the U.S. Open, most recently getting to the last four in 2018. Her next test is #2 seed Aryna Sabalenka, who routed Zheng Qinwen in their quarterfinal match. Let’s look at the US Open Odds for the next big matches in the men’s and women’s singles draws as you plan your US Open betting for the weekend.

Ben Shelton vs Novak Djokovic

US Open Men’s Singles Odds: Ben Shelton (+900) vs (2) Novak Djokovic (-5000) (O/U 32.5 games)
When: Friday, September 8, 1:00 pm ET

Djokovic has had a walk in the park thus far in his draw, facing Alexandre Muller, Bernabe Zapara Mirrales, Laslo Djere, and Borna Gojo, before seeing Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. Djokovic beat Fritz, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. Ben Shelton has had to take down some tougher opponents, including Dominic Thiem, Aslan Karatsev, and Frances Tiafoe, who he stopped in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(7), 6-2. Djokovic and Shelton have never met, and the only reasons to take Shelton here (besides the value) would be Djokovic’s lack of precision (five double faults against Fritz) and Shelton’s courage (delivering 50 winners). This is Shelton’s first Grand slam semifinal; Djokovic is now in his 47th Grand Slam semifinal, breaking Roger Federer’s record. Djokovic has the defense to withstand Shelton’s power. Djokovic to win in four sets.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev

US Open Men’s Singles Odds: (1) Carlos Alcaraz (-350) vs (3) Daniil Medvedev (+240) (O/U 37.5 games)
When: Friday, September 8, 5:00 pm ET

Carlos Alcaraz had a succession of fairly accessible opponents until the quarterfinals, where he faced Alexander Zverev, who made the U.S. Open finals in 2020. Zverev pushed him to a break point in the seventh game, but Alcaraz held serve and then broke Zverev and ended up winning, 6-3. After that, things got easier for Alcaraz as he won in straight sets. Medvedev’s toughest opponent so far has been Andrey Rublev, the one-time men’s #1 player in the world. Rublev took early leads in each set, but Medvedev came back to win them all, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Medvedev mentioned the intense heat after the win and looked exhausted at the end. He had nine double faults, which can be attributed to fatigue. Alcaraz has beaten Medvedev in both of their meetings in 2023, in the final at Indian Wells and the semifinals at Wimbledon. Alcaraz to win in four sets.

Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova

US Open Women’s Singles Odds: (6) Coco Gauff (-225) vs (10) Karolina Muchova (+175) (O/U 21.5 games)
When: Thursday, September 7, 7:00 pm ET

Coco Gauff looked elite in taking down Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champ, in their quarterfinal match. She won the first set, 6-0, in just 20 minutes, and she followed that up by breaking Ostapenko in the first game of the second set and prevailed, 6-2. Muchova also blanked her quarterfinal opponent, Sorana Cirstea, in their first set, and then pushed to a second-set victory, 6-3. Gauff and Muchova have only met once, with Gauff stopping Muchova in straight sets at the final of the Western & Southern Open just a few weeks ago. Muchova struggled in the heat in that match, and the heat is still a factor in Flushing Meadows. Gauff to win in three sets.

Madison Keys vs Aryna Sabalenka

US Open Women’s Singles Odds: (17) Madison Keys (+220) vs (2) Aryna Sabalenka (-300)
When: Thursday, September 7, 8:15 pm ET

Aryna Sabalenka finished off Zheng Qinwen quickly, 6-1, 6-4, the same score by which Madison Keys sent home Marketa Vondrousova. Sabalenka and Keys last met at Wimbledon, where Sabalenka advanced in straight sets. Sabalenka has won two of three lifetime meetings against Keys. This will be a match up of power vs power as both of these players pound the ball. Sabalenka is having the more consistent 2023 as she has made the semifinals of all four Grand Slams. No woman has done that in one season since 2016, when Serena Williams pulled off the upset. Keys has played a masterful tournament so far, minimizing her errors, but Sabalenka will prove to be too strong. Sabalenka wins in three sets.
