Top Tennis Betting Picks of the Week – May 15th Edition

Alexander Zverev vs Matteo Berrettini (2nd round)

May 16, 2018, 5:00am ET

Alexander Zverev has won nine consecutive matches (all on clay), leading to first-place trophies at the Bavarian Championships and the Madrid Open in his last two tournaments. His serve is crazy fast and accurate right now, and he has an 18-set winning streak going right now. With this kind of streak, he could roll to a win at Roland Garros and take his first major of his career. Matteo Berrettini won in the first round over Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. His first serve point win rate was respectable at 80 percent, and he won half of his second serve points. He delivered seven aces, a gutsy performance for someone still making his way into the main tennis tour. Berrettini will have a lot of fans in the stands in Rome, rooting him on toward his first career win over a top-10 player. In his last eight matches on clay, he has won four of them. As well as he has done in the lower tournaments, this will definitely be a baptism by fire. Tennis Betting Prediction: Zverev wins in straight sets

Grigor Dimitrov vs Kei Nishikori (2nd round)

May 16, 2018, 5:00am ET

Grigor Dimitrov has a record of 16-9 in tournament play this season, including a 5-3 record on clay courts. He has lost twice in a row, though, and in his last match he committed five double faults and only won 26 percent of his return points. His tennis is messy right now, much less clean than it was in 2017. Clay is also a surface on which he has traditionally struggled. He has lost seven of his last 13 matches overall, and he needs to turn things around to contend at Roland Garros. He faces Kei Nishikori, who took down Feliciano Lopez in straight sets in the first round. Nishikori needed a first-set tiebreak to move on but then cleaned up in the remainder of the play. He won 78 percent of his first serve points, which was a welcome sign after some arm and wrist injuries had plagued him in the previous weeks. On clay, Nishikori has won six of his previous nine matches. The two have faced off four times, with three wins going to Nishikori, although Dimitrov won the most recent one last year in Brisbane. The two have never played on clay. If Nishikorir can stay healthy, he should prevail here. Tennis Betting Prediction: Nishikori wins Caroline Wozniacki vs Alison van Uytvanck (2nd round)

May 16, 2018, 5:00am ET

Caroline Wozniacki enters this match on the heels of a loss in the third round at Madrid and has gone just 10-6 since winning the Australian Open. In that loss at Madrid, she was broken five times and won less than half of her service points. Her serve has shown reduced speed and accuracy, which could be the by-product of some shaken confidence. Winning a Grand Slam can alter a player’s perspective a bit, leading to some struggles in the next few months. However, Wozniacki has won 8 of 11 in her most recent clay court action, so this could be a time for her to turn things around. Allison van Uytvanck beat Samantha Stosur in the first round, needing three sets and 30 games to advance. Van Uytvanck won 75 percent of her first serve points and 64 percent of her second serve points, which was encouraging given some difficulties she has had landing her serves lately. The fact that she made it past Stosur without one break was also a plus. She is 4-4 in her last eight matches on clay — and that inconsistency will not serve her well against Wozniacki. Tennis Betting Prediction: Wozniacki wins
