2018 FIFA World Cup Betting Preview Day 10 (June 23)

As we move into the second weekend of the 2018 World Cup, we move into the end of the second round of group play. On Saturday, we have two Group F matches, as South Korea meets Mexico and Germany meets Sweden. Mexico and Sweden lead this group with three points apiece, as Mexico shocked Germany in their opener and Sweden bat South Korea. Mexico would clinch advancement to the round of 16 with a win over South Korea, as would Sweden, but I find it much more likely that Mexico will do so, as Germany is likely to have a lesson ready for Sweden to take out some frustrations. In Group G, Belgium takes on Tunisia. In that group, Belgium is tied with England atop the group with three points, while Tunisia and Panama are both looking for their first points. We have World Cup betting odds, television and live streaming options, and insights on all three of these matches for you.

2018 FIFA World Cup Betting Preview Day 10 (June 23)

Group G: Belgium vs Tunisia (3:00pm local time, 8:00am Eastern time, FOX/fuboTV)

Odds: Belgium -319 / Draw +450 / Tunisia +1060 / O/U 2.5

Tunisia did a good job locking down the offense of England in their group play opener, but Harry Kane was able to complete a brace late to lead the Three Lions to a 2-1 victory. Now Tunisia must either get a draw or a win to avoid elimination at the hands of Belgium, who would secure six points and a slot in the round of 16 with a victory. Tunisia has a solid defense, and they can find the back of the net, but it is worth asking if they have the talent and confidence to push through against a side like Belgium. The Red Devils are loaded with offensive talent, and they are one of the dark horse contenders to win the whole tournament, as they can score in bunches. England relies pretty much exclusively on Kane to score, but Belgium has three or four scorers who are of Kane’s caliber, so they should be able to produce plenty of chances. While the wager on Belgium to win doesn’t bring much moneyline value, you can make some more money by going with the “over,” as a 3-0 or 3-1 win for Belgium is likely. Group F: South Korea vs Mexico (6:00pm local time, 11:00am Eastern time, FOX/fuboTV) Odds: Mexico +104 / Draw +236 / South Korea +313 / O/U 2.5 South Korea needs a point out of this match if they want to avoid elimination, as they lost to Sweden 1-0 in their group opener. If South Korea had not conceded a penalty in the 65th minute, it’s hard to say that Sweden would have found the room to score, thanks to the tough defense that South Korea played. Sweden possessed for 53 percent of the game and outshot South Korea 15-5 (5-0 on target), but South Korea held the sheet clean except for that penalty. They could slow the game down against Mexico as well, looking for that draw or that one goal to build a slim lead. Mexico will enter with all sorts of confidence after knocking off Die Mannschaft in their first game. Hirving Lozano was the hero, taking a ball from Chicharito and sliding it inside the near post in the 35th minute. The more impressive part of the game was the way in which Mexico’s defense locked down one of the most talented offenses in the world. South Korea will have to go on the offensive here, and I’m not sure that Mexico’s defense will crack. I like Mexico to win 2-0, which means I would take that nice Mexico moneyline and put some more funds down on the “under.” Group F: Germany vs Sweden (9:00pm local time, 2:00pm Eastern time, FOX/fuboTV) Odds: Germany -229 / Draw +367 / Sweden +738 / O/U 2.5 Sweden showed their strengths in their win over South Korea, showing tenacious defense for the entire length of the game, and then using their cohesiveness to move the action down the field and force a penalty. The fact that they only scored one goal against South Korea, though, suggests that they have trouble generating chances against a defense that communicates, and Germany ‘s talent level is well above that of South Korea. Germany comes in needing points, and their biggest problem against Mexico was isolation of their center backs. Up front, their strikers had chances but could not finish them. Now that the team faces the chance of elimination if they do not get a win over Sweden, I see them moving much more efficiently and delivering a win. I’m seeing a 2-0 win for Germany, which means that I’m liking the “under” once again.
