Why Should You Bet on Dallas?

Unless Alex Goligoski and the rest of the Stars’ blueliners decide to cover the Blues, betting money on Dallas in Game 4 will be akin to setting fire to the cash in your wallet. The Stars could have Patrick Roy in net, and it wouldn’t matter given how poorly the Stars have covered the Blues in the first period and overtime of Game 2 and all of Game 3. The Stars have rebounded from adversity well this season, so I expect a more spirited effort out of them, but I don’t know that I’d put my hard-earned money on the line for them until I see some legitimate defense out of that unit.

Why Should You Put Your Money on the Blues?

The Blues had a two-goal lead in Game 2 and then found themselves heading to overtime, thanks to the stellar play of backup netminder Antti Niemi for the Stars. In Game 3, the Blues were again up by two goals, and neither goalie for the Stars (as well as the entire defensive corps for Dallas) had an answer for the Blues, who just kept scoring. The Blues actually posted six straight goals after Dallas took the early lead. They are showing that they can take advantage of a Dallas team that, despite their high-powered offense, shows AHL-quality play at time on defense and in goal. The Blues followed this same formula to victory against Chicago, and it’s working again with the Stars.

The way things are looking now, I’m picking the Blues to take a dominant 3-1 lead back to Dallas after Game 4. I’m predicting a 4-1 St. Louis win.
