Saints vs Cowboys NFL Week 13 Odds & Preview

Written by on November 27, 2018

The 10-1 New Orleans Saints visit the 6-5 Dallas Cowboys in prime time this week, as both teams won big games on Thanksgiving Day and lead the NFC South and NFC East, respectively. Dallas has won three in a row after taking an ugly loss on Monday Night Football against Tennessee, while the Saints haven’t lost since Week 1, when they fell in a barnburner against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Can the Cowboys’ offense keep rolling against an underrated New Orleans defense, or will the Saints deliver yet another rout? We have a NFL betting prediction about this Thursday night affair for you to consider.

Saints vs Cowboys NFL Week 13 Odds & Preview

When: Thursday, November 29, 8:20pm ET Where: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX TV: NFL Network / FOX Radio: Westwood One Live Stream: NFL Live NFL Week 13 Odds: New Orleans -7, O/U 52.5

Why should you bet on the Saints?

The Saints have a 5-0 road record, thanks in large part to historic numbers from quarterback Drew Brees. He has a 76.4 percent completion rate this season, for 3,135 yards and 29 scores — with just two interceptions. Alvin Kamara has been terrific out of the backfield, running for 706 yards and 11 scores, and also combining with Michael Thomas for almost 1,600 receiving yards and a dozen touchdowns. With that balance and with Brees’ quick release, it’s hard to key on the pass rush, as Atlanta found last week. On defense, New Orleans has figured things out, holding teams to just 23.3 points per game. New Orleans has covered in nine straight games and in 20 of their last 27 games away from the Crescent City. They have also covered in 23 of 32 against NFC competition and in eight of their last 11 games against the Cowboys. If you like the Saints, you see their pass rush forcing Dak Prescott into mistakes and bottling up Ezekiel Elliott on early-down runs, and you also see Brees torching a Dallas secondary that has improved but still gives up big plays.

Why should you put your money on the Cowboys?

AT&T Stadium has never really been a friendly place for the Dallas Cowboys to play. Maybe it’s that giant video screen that keeps people’s attention away from the field, but for whatever reason home field advantage has not been a factor for the Cowboys since they played at Texas Stadium. Even so, they have won four of five at home this season, and Dak Prescott has picked up the yardage lately, throwing now for 2,427 yards through 11 games, along with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. Amari Cooper already has 22 catches since coming over from Oakland and had two huge touchdowns against Washington on Thanksgiving Day. Ezekiel Elliott has already broken the 1,000-yard barrier after 11 games and has six rushing touchdowns. The defense has stood tall, particularly in the last month, permitting just 19.4 points per game, thanks in part to a terrific rookie campaign from linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, who leads the team with 93 tackles, and with the 8 ½ sacks that DeMarcus Lawrence has posted. Dallas has covered the spread just three times in their last 11 games on Thursday, although they did cover against Washington last week. They have covered in five of their last seven. With that said, New Orleans has won each of their 10 games in this streak by double figures, and Sean Payton is one of the best coaches in the league. If you like Dallas here, you see the Saints having a bit of an off week offensively, like Pittsburgh did on Sunday up in Denver, and you see the Cowboys taking advantage of a Saints secondary that can leave some holes. I’m not sure Prescott can find those gaps down the field, though.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Cowboys have played competitive ball lately and have turned around a dumpster fire season with three straight wins. However, the teams they have beaten (Atlanta, Philadelphia and Washington) in that streak all have problems of their own, while the Saints look like a juggernaut right now. I predict a final score of New Orleans 31, Dallas 16.
