Two teams riding hot streaks will tangle on Sunday afternoon when the Los Angeles Rams, winners of four in a row, head into the Twin Cities to take on the Minnesota Vikings, who have a five-game winning streak of their own. Both teams have seen pleasant surprises from their starting quarterbacks, as Jared Goff has come into his own running the offense in Los Angeles, and Case Keenum has come off the bench to lead the Vikings to success moving the ball up and down the field, even after the loss of tailback Dalvin Cook to injury. We see two contenders for the postseason in the NFC squaring off on Sunday afternoon, so check out our NFL lines preview of this showdown as you put your wagers together for this weekend’s pro football action.

Why should you bet on the Rams?

Los Angeles has scored at least 33 points six times in 2017 — and they have done so in each of their last three games, including a 33-7 dismantling of the Houston Texans a week ago. The Vikings run either Cover 2 or Cover 4 on passing downs, which gives Rams coach Sean McVay an advantage. His offense features downfield switch releases that attack cornerbacks and find holes. Goff has been terrific at finding those people down the field, which has led to a great deal of success in the Rams’ offense. Then there’s Todd Gurley. The Vikings like to plug both of the A-gaps, which means that they are vulnerable on the edges of their front seven. Gurley is terrific at getting around that corner in the zone running attack, and he can also drift out into the flat and catch passes, and then pick up bushels of yards after the catch. The Rams should remember that Case Keenum has a lot of limitations at the quarterback position. He’s not particularly mobile, and he can’t spin out of pressure well. Watch out for Ram defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who is one of their best pass rushers. He generally lines up across from the weakest guard on the opponent’s offensive line and pushes through to harass the passer. If Keenum doesn’t have time to see down the field, then he won’t be able to see holes open up in that Ram secondary — which could make this a long day for Minnesota.

Why should you put your money on the Vikings?

The Vikings have eight starters on defense that were either selected in the first or second round of the draft. Over the past few years, the Vikings’ zone defense has improved, and they have a pair of defensive tackles in Shamar Stephen and Linval Joseph that clog up the run, and then Danielle Hunter, Everson Griffen and Anthony Barr bring a ferocious pass rush when it moves to third down. Are the Vikings a safe bet in Week 11? Why has Case Keenum had so much success this year? Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has designed a system that plays to Keenum’s strengths, and Keenum is not hesitating when he see sopening down the field.Minnesota also uses a series of switch releases to frustrate cornerbacks early in the play, and few wide receivers run routes with the precision that Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen bring to the game. Which one will the Rams put shutdown corner Trumaine Johnson on? The problem is that no matter which one he covers, the other will be able to put up catches.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I’ve been more impressed by the Rams’ defense and quick-strike offense than I have been by the rise of Minnesota this year. Gurley and Goff give the Rams better weapons on offense — and I think the Rams’ pass rush will force Keenum into too many mistakes. I predict a final score of Los Angeles 24, Minnesota 16.
