Jaguars vs Titans NFL Betting Odds & Predictions for Week 14

Written by on December 7, 2022

Both the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans are looking for bounceback games in Week 14. Last week, Detroit humiliated the Jaguars, and the Philadelphia Eagles trounced Tennessee. Wide receiver A.J. Brown, whom the Titans had traded to Tennessee in the off-season, had a huge game against his former team, and things turned out so badly for the Titans that they fired the general manager who made the trade. The Titans (7-5) still lead the AFC South, while the Jaguars are an up-and-coming team. Which team will win? Don’t miss our NFL betting preview.

Why should you bet on the Jaguars?

The Jaguars started 2-1 before hitting a five-game losing streak. Since then, though, they have split their last four games, alternating wins over Las Vegas and Baltimore at home with losses at Kansas City and Detroit. They only lost to Kansas City by 10 on the road, but they got run out of Ford Field, losing to the Lions, 40-14.

In that loss, Detroit did not have to punt a single time, scoring on all five of their first-half drives and their first three second-half possessions. Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence was just 17 of 31 for 179 yards and a touchdown, and the Jaguars only converted three of 12 third downs. This came against a Detroit defense that is not known for being particularly aggressive or effective this season. The Jaguar defense saw Jared Goff go 31 of 41 for 340 yards and two scores, which bodes well for Ryan Tannehill’s chances at finding wide receivers open down the field.

Why should you put your money on the Titans?

Tennessee has controlled this rivalry, winning 34 of the 55 meetings, including the last five in a row. This is the teams’ first meeting in 2022, but in 2021, the Titans swept the series by a combined score of 57-19, including a 20-0 blanking in the second game. One reason is the play of Derrick Henry, who has faced Jacksonville 11 times as a Titan. He has run for 1,143 yards and 14 scores in those games, and the Jaguars have not shown a particularly stout rushing defense this season.

The Titans definitely could use a win after falling to Cincinnati at home and Philadelphia on the road. In those two games, the Titans have scored only 26 points combined, as their opponents have found ways to limit the damage that Henry can do, forcing Ryan Tannehill to convert on third-and-long situations while playing on a sprained ankle. Everyone has injuries on the roster at this time of year, and no one questions Tannehill’s toughness. If you like Tennessee, you see their imposing, grinding style controlling the rhythm from the outset.

Final Score and Prediction

Playing at home after a two-game skid, the Tennessee Titans have the perfect opportunity to take out some frustrations on a team that is clearly a level or two below them in terms of talent and execution. I see the Titans turning this game into a grinding, pounding affair, establishing their running game and getting after Trevor Lawrence. I predict a final score of Tennessee 30, Jacksonville 16.
