Eagles vs Seahawks MNF Week 15 Betting Odds and Score Prediction

Written by on December 18, 2023

This week’s installment of Monday Night Football might feature not one, but two backup quarterbacks. Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts is suffering from an illness that made it necessary for him to travel separately from the rest of the team to keep others from getting ill, and news reports indicate that his condition worsened over the weekend. Marcus Mariota would start if Hurts can’t go. For the Seahawks, Geno Smith missed last week’s game with a groin injury and was limited in practice this week. Drew Lock got the start in last week’s loss, and the Seahawks fell behind in a hurry in a 28-16 loss to the 49ers. Given that the Seahawks have permitted 100 points in their last three games – all losses – they can’t afford a slow start tonight. Check out our NFL betting prediction for this Eagles vs Seahawks showdown.

Why should you bet on the Eagles?

After that scintillating 10-1 start, the Eagles’ offense has fallen into a hole. They only have two offensive touchdowns in their last eight quarters (losses to San Francisco and Dallas), and both of those game in garbage time of that blowout loss to the 49ers. Jalen Hurts’ knee may be bothering him as he only has a 61% pass completion rate over his last four games. The Eagles didn’t score an offensive touchdown against Dallas – their lone score came on a scoop-and-score on a strip sack. It didn’t help that the Eagles aren’t moving the ball around much. Hurts attempted 27 passes against Dallas, but he only targeted three receivers: Dallas Goedert, DeVonta Smith, and A.J. Brown. That left D’Andre Swift and some other dangerous targets out of the mix. Swift had a combined 19 touches in two games.

Getting to play the Seahawks should help the Eagles get back on track offensively, as the Seattle defense permitted 9.94 yards per play against San Francisco last week. The 49ers rumbled for 527 yards, the most a Seahawks team had permitted in any game not involving overtime since 2013. It was only the eighth time since 2000 that a team that had permitted 9.9 or more yards per play. When Denver permitted 70 points in that loss to the Dolphins earlier this season, they permitted 10.23 yards per play, to give you an idea of how generous the defense was.

Why should you put your money on the Seahawks?

If Jalen Hurts is out and Marcus Mariota has to play quarterback, then things get really interesting. Mariota is dangerous with his legs, but he has a hard time stretching the field in the passing game. This means that the Seahawks would be able to load the box and challenge the running game. If Geno Smith can get back onto the field, he has Tyler Lockett and DJ Metcalf running routes for him, which always means that big plays are possible. The Eagles’ secondary struggled to stop the San Francisco and Dallas passing attacks, particularly in the middle of the field, so you know that Pete Carroll will have Smith ready to take advantage.

The Seattle defense does have a ton of injuries, including safety Jamal Adams (knee), cornerback Devin Witherspoon (hip), linebacker Nick Bellore (knee), and linebacker Darrell Taylor (abdomen). These absences in the middle of the defense could make it easier for the Eagles to run the ball. It will also be interesting to see how the Eagles respond to adversity after taking two tough losses in a row.

Eagles vs Seahawks Final Score and Prediction

It’s important to remember that Seattle has a 29-12 all-time record on Monday nights, a win percentage that leads the NFL. Since Pete Carroll became the head coach in 2010, the Seahawks are 33-14-1 in prime-time contests, also the best record in the NFL during that time frame. The Eagles have some tough questions to answer for the first time in the Nick Sirianni / Jalen Hurts era. Will they be able to solve them on the road? I predict a final score of Seattle 23, Philadelphia 20.
