Giants vs Eagles NFL Betting Odds & Predictions for Week 16

Written by on December 25, 2023

The Philadelphia Eagles have seen a 10-1 start turn into a 10-4 record going into Week 16. The first two games weren’t that much of a surprise, as both the 49ers and the Cowboys were coming in off a mini-bye. The size of the losses was a surprise as both losses were routs. The biggest surprise was the Monday night loss in Seattle, when they only scored 17 points against a Seahawk defense rife with injuries. If the Eagles had picked up just one more first down in the fourth quarter against Seattle, they could have run out the clock, but they had to punt, and then their defense collapsed, permitting a 92-yard scoring drive led by backup quarterback Drew Lock. Now the Eagles finish with two games against the Giants sandwiched around a game against the Cardinals. The NFL betting odds assume that the Eagles will come out and deliver a rout. Will they? Read on to get our prediction.

Why should you bet on the Giants?

The Giants had a three-game winning streak going and were still on the edge of the NFC playoff conversation before going to New Orleans and taking a 24-6 beating at the hands of the Saints. Tommy DeVito is set to get the start again at quarterback; he has thrown for 1,032 yards and eight scores with three picks. Saquon Barkley has had a serviceable year, running for 797 yards. The top receiver is Darius Slayton, but he only has 512 receiving yards. Tight end Darren Waller (424) and wide receivers Jalin Hyatt (343) and Wan’Dale Robinson (369) have also contributed, and four other Giants have at least 100 receiving yards.

The defense is led by 122 tackles from Bobby Okereke, and Kayvon Thibodeaux has had a strong season in the pass rush, piling up 11 ½ sacks. Lincoln Financial Field has not been kind fo the Giants, who have a 10-game losing streak in Philly. On the road, the Giants have lost five of six against the spread. They have lost the first half in five straight games on Mondays, but those are usually prime-time affairs.

Why should you put your money on the Eagles?

Jalen Hurts looks to bounce back against a team that has given up a lot in the passing game. He has 3,335 passing yards along with 19 touchdowns and a dozen picks. D’Andre Swift has been solid in the run game, picking up 896 yards with four scores, but Hurts is the leader in rushing touchdowns with 14. A.J. Brown has caught 95 balls for 1,314 yards and seven scores, and DeVonta Smith has caught 74 passes for 957 yards. Tight end Dallas Goedert (470 receiving yards) is back in the lineup, giving Hurts a target in the middle of the field.

The Eagles have a six-game losing streak against the spread against sub-.500 teams, and they have lost the first half in seven of their last eight contests when favored at home after losing on the road. However, they have found the end zone first in seven of their last eight home games in the division. Thanks to the “Tush Push,” they have a 72.7% fourth-down conversion rate.

Final Score and Prediction

Last week’s loss to the Saints showed us that the rest of the league has caught up with Tommy DeVito, so the Giants’ resurgence may have come to an end. Can the Eagles win by double figures? I think that they will figure out their offensive issues and work out some frustrations on Monday. I predict a final score of Philadelphia 34, New York 16.
