Cowboys – Giants → NFL Game Betting Odds & Predictions for Week 3

Written by on September 23, 2022

The New York Giants have jumped out to a 2-0 record in 2022, tied with Philadelphia for the NFC East lead. The Dallas Cowboys are a game back at 1-1 after a last-second win over Cincinnati, despite the fact that Cooper Rush had to play the game in place of Dak Prescott, who fractured a thumb in the team’s Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay. The Giants have an opportunistic defense and have Saquon Barkley looking like his old self. The Cowboys have an aggressive defense led by Micah Parsons, but their offense is still struggling behind a patchwork line and an apparently aging Ezekiel Elliott. Can the Giants end a streak of futility against the Cowboys? Read on to find our NFL betting prediction.

NFL Preview: Dallas Cowboys at N.Y. Giants

NFL Odds: New York -1 / O/U 39 // New York -115 / Dallas -105

Why should you bet on the Cowboys?

Dallas will be able to get pressure on Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, and we know that Jones will turn the ball over when he has defenders all around him. Micah Parsons should be able to lead a fierce pass rush when the Cowboys can force the Giants into passing situations. The Cowboys do have a hard time stopping the run, as we saw most recently with Tampa Bay’s Leonard Fournette. However, the Bengals did not put together as much emphasis on the run last week, which helped the Dallas cause.

On offense, Cooper Rush led a pair of scoring drives for Dallas in the first half, but the team only scored three points after halftime. Those points came after the Bengals had come back to tie the game at 14, when Rush led a two-minute drill drive that ended in a Brett Maher field goal. In between, though, Dallas had a lot of drives stall as the Bengals were able to stack the line and dare Rush to beat them with throws down the field. The Giants have been able to stifle opposing offenses as well, so if you like Dallas, you think they can break through.

Why should you put your money on the Giants?

The Giants can run the ball, and Dallas struggles with stopping the run. Barkley ran for 72 yards in Week 2, and Daniel Jones threw for 176 yards and a touchdown, giving himself three on the year against just one interception. The Giants’ wins have come against two struggling teams (Tennessee and Carolina), and they have won those games by a combined four points, but a win is a win.

Dallas has a hard time with gritty, opportunistic teams, and if the Giants can protect the ball and stay with the running game, they should be able to move the ball at will, especially as things loosen up after the first quarter. If you like the Giants, you see that defensive commitment slowing down Dallas and forcing some turnovers of their own.

Final Score and Prediction

I think that we saw the best that Cooper Rush can play in Week 2, and I think that the Giants will do a better job of getting pressure on him. I see the Giants controlling the rhythm by pounding the ball on the ground and wearing down that Dallas defense. I predict a final score of New York 20, Dallas 16.
