NFL Week 9 Odds, Preview and Predictions for Each Game

Written by on October 29, 2018

The New England Patriots have — to no one’s surprise — moved into control of the AFC East with a four-game winning streak. The Dolphins, Jets and Bills have all lost two straight, and we project that the Patriots will beat Buffalo on Monday Night Football to take a two-game lead over the Dolphins. In the NFC, the Los Angeles Rams remain the lone unbeaten team in the league thanks to a 29-27 win over Green Bay that was much closer than many had thought. The New Orleans Saints emerged as a contender in the NFC after knocking off Minnesota on the road to move to 6-1. What will happen in the NFL this week? Check our NFL Week 9 betting preview for the week’s action. As always, home teams are in all caps.

NFL Week 9 Odds, Preview and Predictions for Each Game

  • Bye Week: Arizona, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, N.Y. Giants, Philadelphia

Thursday, November 1 (8:20pm ET)

Oakland (+4) over SAN FRANCISCO

The Raiders hung 28 points on Indianapolis last week without Amari Cooper, and they should be able to move the ball in the air against the 49ers. Also, the Raiders’ defense should be able to slow down an offense led by backup quarterback C.J. Beathard.

Sunday, November 4 (1:00pm ET games)

Kansas City (-8) over CLEVELAND

The Browns’ defense has been solved by the Chargers and the Steelers — neither of whom have the weapons that Kansas City has. And Baker Mayfield is definitely hitting some growing pains.

MIAMI (NL) over N.Y. Jets

Sam Darnold couldn’t do much to move the ball against the Chicago Bears last week. Check the injury report on Miami’s Ryan Tannehill before you lock in your wager, but even Brock Osweiler should be able to move the ball against the Jets.

MINNESOTA (-6.5) over Detroit

Expect the Vikings to make a statement after losing by 10 to the Saints at home. Detroit also has a solid passing game, but they don’t have the same defensive starch that New Orleans does.

Atlanta (+2.5) over WASHINGTON

Washington has a plodding offense and a decent defense. Atlanta has a high-flying but inconsistent offense and a suspect defense. I see the talent kicking in for the Falcons and edging out Washington on the road.

Pittsburgh (+3) over BALTIMORE

The Ravens have dropped two in a row and gave up 36 points to Carolina. Pittsburgh delivered convincing wins over Cincinnati and Cleveland the last two weeks.

Sunday, November 4 (4:05pm ET games)

Houston (PK) over DENVER

Denver hung tough at Kansas City this past weekend but still lost by seven. Houston has won five in a row, including a 42-23 romp over the Miami Dolphins this past weekend, as Deshaun Watson seems to be back at 100%.

SEATTLE (-2.5) over L.A. Chargers

The Chargers have won four in a row, but the Seahawks have a two-game winning streak, and this game is up in Seattle, where the Seahawks’ 12th Man will be in effect. The Seahawks’ discovery of a physical defense has keyed their turnaround.

Sunday, November 4 (4:25pm ET)

L.A. Rams (-2.5) over NEW ORLEANS

Huge NFC showdown that could well be an NFC Championship preview. The Saints did deliver a 30-20 win in Minneapolis this past weekend, but if the Rams can escape Aaron Rodgers, they can escape Drew Brees.

Sunday, November 4 (8:20pm ET)

NEW ENGLAND (-6.5) over Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers looked slow against the Rams this past weekend — but still almost pulled off a win. However, the Packers’ defense can’t stay with the Patriots.

Monday, November 5 (8:15pm ET)

DALLAS (-4) over Tennessee

The Cowboys are 3-0 at home and 0-4 on the road, and Tennessee doesn’t have much of an offense.
