2018 NFL Week 8 Odds, Overview and Picks for Each Game

Written by on October 23, 2018

The Kansas City Chiefs rebounded quite nicely from their three-point loss in New England last Sunday, delivering a 45-10 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals in prime time. Dallas is still perfect at home (3-0) but dreadful on the road (0-4) as a ridiculously conservative offensive approach and a bone-headed series of penalties gave the Washington Redskins a 20-17 win. Andrew Luck now has more touchdown passes than three NFL teams combined after the Colts rolled to a 37-5 win over Buffalo — and the Cleveland Browns went to overtime AGAIN but lost, 26-23, on a 59-yard field goal by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What can you expect in NFL Week 8? We have a quick NFL betting prediction for each game. As always, home teams are in all caps.

2018 NFL Week 8 Odds, Overview and Picks for Each Game

  • Bye Weeks: Atlanta, Dallas, L.A. Chargers, Tennessee

Thursday, October 25 (8:20pm ET)

HOUSTON (-7.5) over Miami

The Texans went to Jacksonville and picked up a gritty win over the Jaguars this past week, while the Dolphins lost by 11 at home to Detroit. Miami may still be missing quarterback Ryan Tannehill (shoulder), so expect Brock Osweiler to play for a third game — and expect the Texans to tee off on him.

Sunday, October 28 (9:30am ET)

Philadelphia (-3) over Jacksonville (in London)

Jacksonville benched quarterback Blake Bortles after he fumbled the ball away twice in the Jags’ loss to Houston, putting Cody Kessler onto the field, but he was only able to lead Jacksonville to seven points. Philadelphia gave away a 17-point lead to Carolina at home this past week, so I expect them to take out some frustrations across the Atlantic.

Sunday, October 28 (1:00pm ET games)

CHICAGO (-6) over N.Y. Jets

The Bears pushed hard against New England this past weekend, closing a 38-24 game to 38-31 and then completing a Hail Mary to the 1-yard line, only to have the Patriots’ defense keep them out of the end zone. The Jets don’t have the offense that the Patriots do, and the Bears should have Khalil Mack back on defense…so I like the Bears to roll.

CINCINNATI (-6) over Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay saw Cleveland come back to tie the game at the end of regulation and then won on a long, long field goal. Cincinnati got demolished by Kansas City last week but has the defense to keep Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers’ offense in check.

DETROIT (-2.5) over Seattle

The Seahawks routed Oakland 27-3 two weeks ago and visit Detroit after their bye week. The Lions went down to Miami and won by 11. With this game on the road, I see the Detroit offense doing enough to roll over Seattle.

KANSAS CITY (-9) over Denver

AFC West rivalry games are always spirited, but no one has shown that they can answer the Chiefs defensively — and Case Keenum cannot keep up with Patrick Mahomes.

Washington (-1) over N.Y. GIANTS

The Redskins get a lot out of Adrian Peterson, and Alex Smith is good enough guiding the offense without making mistakes that Washington should be able to eke out another divisional win against an aging Eli Manning and the New York Giants.

PITTSBURGH (-7.5) over Cleveland

The Steelers are rounding into form nicely, as they pounded out a nice seven-point win in Cincinnati two weeks ago. They come out of the bye hosting Cleveland, whom they tied on the road in the opener. Cleveland waits too long to get going with their offense — why exactly did they trade Josh Gordon, again? — and the Steelers will take advantage.

Baltimore over CAROLINA (PK)

The Ravens blanked the Titans by a 21-0 score two weeks ago and come from the bye in Carolina, who looked terrific late when they came back to beat Philadelphia on the road by a 21-17 score. However, I don’t see the Panthers being able to solve the Ravens’ defense as easily.

Sunday, October 28 (4:05pm ET)

Indianapolis (-1.5) over OAKLAND

Oakland doesn’t have a defense, and Indianapolis seems to be finding one, as they held Buffalo to five points last week. The rebuilding plan in Oakland seems to be taking as long as the construction of their stadium in Vegas.

Sunday, October 28 (4:25pm ET)

L.A. RAMS (-8.5) over Green Bay

The Rams are the league’s sole unbeaten, rolling to a 39-10 win over San Francisco this past week. Green Bay looks like their defense is shredding while Aaron Rodgers’ knee is keeping him from some of his usual magic.

ARIZONA (PK) over San Francisco

Josh Rosen vs C.J. Beathard. I wouldn’t put any of my own money down on this, but you have two iffy defenses playing against two young quarterbacks. The Cardinals have the better tailback in David Johnson, so I’m giving them the slight nod.

Sunday, October 28 (8:20pm ET)

New Orleans (+2.5) over MINNESOTA

The Saints get some karmic revenge for that divisional round loss in Minnesota last week, as the Drew Brees Show deserves a little more credit after taking down the Ravens on the road last week.

Monday, October 29 (8:15pm ET)

New England (-13) over BUFFALO

With the likes of Josh Allen, Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman running the Buffalo offense, one has to wonder a couple of things — how many quarterbacks have to get injured before Colin Kaepernick gets one single workout, and will New England get to 60 this week?
