NFL Week 6 Odds, Overview & Predictions for Each Game

Written by on October 8, 2018

Another week in the 2018 regular season in the National Football League brought more surprises. The rookie quarterback starters (Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield) went 0-4 a week ago — but went 4-0 this week, the first time rookie quarterbacks had posted that stout a record in the history of the league. The Cleveland Browns played in their third overtime game in five contests so far and finally won one, knocking off Baltimore by a 12-9 score. Buffalo upset Tennessee by a 13-12 score, and Minnesota gained some revenge for the NFC Championship by knocking off Philadelphia on the road, 23-21. We have some NFL Week 6 betting perspective on each of the matchups for the coming week. As always, home teams are in all caps.

NFL Week 6 Odds, Overview & Predictions for Each Game

  • Bye Week: Detroit, New Orleans
Thursday, October 11 Philadelphia (-2.5) over N.Y. GIANTS The Eagles will be ready to work off some frustration after taking that close loss at home to the Vikings this past week, and the Giants don’t have the defense to slow down the Philly attack. Sunday, October 14 (1:00pm ET games) Arizona (+10.5) over MINNESOTA The Vikings’ defense stood a little taller in Philadelphia, but the Cardinals showed some offensive flair behind Josh Rosen against the 49ers. If this line were seven or eight points, I’d still take the Vikings, so watch the movement on this line. As it is, I’m taking the Cards with those points. CLEVELAND (+1.5) over L.A. Chargers We’re seeing offense after offense grind to a halt at FirstEnergy Field. The Chargers have enough consistency issues, so I see the Browns winning again as Baker Mayfield continues to gain confidence. Chicago (-2.5) over MIAMI Losing to New England and Cincinnati showed that the Miami Dolphins still have some significant issues moving the ball, and their defense has lost some starch over the last two weeks. Carolina (+2.5) over WASHINGTON I’d probably wait to lock this in to see how Washington does with New Orleans on Monday Night Football. However, the Panthers play smashmouth football week in and week out, and I’m not sure the Redskins are ready for that. N.Y. JETS (-3) over Indianapolis The Colts have a great quarterback again in Andrew Luck — but they can’t stop anyone from scoring. The Jets have a quarterback on the rise in Sam Darnold, and they can get stops. Pittsburgh (+2.5) over CINCINNATI Pittsburgh turned a corner defensively in their big win over Atlanta this past weekend. Big Ben is producing at career levels. So is Cincinnati’s Andy Dalton, but while the Bengals have picked up some impressive wins, they can’t hang with the Steelers in a shootout. ATLANTA (-3.5) over Tampa Bay Jameis Winston will return as starting quarterback for the Buccaneers as Tampa Bay comes out of the bye. The Falcons enter this game at 1-4 after a week in which their offense absolutely sputtered in Pittsburgh. I see them making the adjustments — and their defense exploiting the rust on Winston. Seattle (-2.5) over OAKLAND The Seahawks went down to Los Angeles this past week and almost stole a huge win over the Rams, losing by two. Oakland’s woes continued as they visited the Chargers and took a 16-point loss. Jon Gruden’s rebuild is still looking very rough, while the Seahawks seem to have found their groove. HOUSTON (-8.5) over Buffalo Yes, the Bills knocked off Tennessee at home by a point. However, the Titans don’t have the offensive duo of Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins, who carried the Texans to victory on Sunday night despite the best efforts of the rest of the team to give the game to Dallas. Sunday, October 14 (4:05pm / 4:25pm ET games) Jacksonville (-2) over DALLAS The Jacksonville defense gave up 30 points to Kansas City last week, but the Chiefs have a dynamic quarterback and wide receiver to go along with a terrific tailback. The Cowboys just have the tailback. Now, Blake Bortles will struggle against the Dallas defense, but I see the Jaguars winning with a late field goal. Baltimore (-1.5) over TENNESSEE The Ravens got sucked into that Cleveland quicksand, but it won’t happen two weeks in a row. The Titans have a sound defense, but the Ravens do too, and the Ravens will fix the protection issues that dogged them against the Browns. L.A. Rams (-7) over DENVER The Broncos just got torched by the New York Jets. The Rams have a better quarterback, better receivers and a better defense. Sunday, October 14 (8:20pm ET) Kansas City (+3) over NEW ENGLAND Pat Mahomes will outduel Tom Brady on prime time, on the Patriots’ home field. Monday, October 15 (8:15pm ET) GREEN BAY (-9) over San Francisco The Packers took a tough loss at Detroit this past weekend, but now they get to play at home in prime time against a backup quarterback. Get ready for some Rodgers Revenge.
