NFL Week 3 Odds, Overview & Prediction for Each Game

Written by on September 17, 2018

The amazing run of Ryan Fitzpatrick in Tampa Bay continues, as he threw four more touchdown passes in an emphatic win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Dallas showed some aggressiveness on offense — but just for a quarter, as they scored on their opening drive on a Dak Prescott bomb to Tavon Austin — but then only scored 13 more points the rest of the way. Minnesota and Cleveland could well be in the market for a kicker this week, as both teams saw their outcomes undone by missed field goals. Oh — and Buffalo even saw Vontae Davis retire — at halftime. What will happen this week? Check out our NFL Week 3 betting predictions for each contest. As always, home teams are in all caps.

NFL Week 3 Odds, Overview & Prediction for Each Game

Thursday, September 20, 8:20pm ET

CLEVELAND over N.Y. Jets

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Browns -3
The Jets blew out Detroit on the road and then lost to Miami at home, as Sam Darnold showed the growing pains of a rookie starter. Cleveland tied Pittsburgh at home and then had their kicker fail them in the clutch against New Orleans, and now they’re 0-1-1. The Browns’ defense should be able to clamp down on the Jets. But which Jet defense will show up? On short-week games like this, I like the home team in most cases.

ATLANTA over New Orleans

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Falcons -3
The Saints got torched by Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 1 and barely escaped the Browns at home. Now they head to take on a Falcons team that came to live in a win over Carolina. The Saints need to figure out their defense.

KANSAS CITY over San Francisco

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Chiefs -5
Patrick Mahomes set a record for touchdown passes by a visiting quarterback in Pittsburgh with six. Now they face a San Francisco team that almost let the Detroit Lions come back to win.

MIAMI over Oakland

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Dolphins -4.5
The Raiders had a late lead over the Denver Broncos on the road, but the Broncos came back to win. We saw how tough Miami was on both sides of the ball in their gritty win over the Jets — and they lead the AFC East now.

MINNESOTA over Buffalo

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Vikings -16.5
This is an immense point spread. But if the Vikings had not given up a punt block for a touchdown, and if they had a kicker who could make a 35-yard field goal, they would be 2-0 instead of 1-0-1. Buffalo has moved to Josh Allen at quarterback, and they only lost by 11 at home. But this is Minnesota, and their defense will make Allen look silly.

PHILADELPHIA over Indianapolis

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: NL
Carson Wentz is set to return for the Eagles, and this game won’t be played in humid Florida. Yes, Andrew Luck is throwing well for the Colts, but the Redskins’ defense isn’t close to what the Eagles have, and Philadelphia will make the right adjustments.

Green Bay over WASHINGTON

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Packers -2.5
Washington’s true defensive personality came out in their loss to Indianapolis, and Green Bay has a quarterback who is even more deadly in Aaron Rodgers.

CAROLINA over Cincinnati

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Panthers -3
The Bengals have delivered convincing wins over the Colts and the Ravens. However, Andy Dalton has never delivered in the clutch on the road, and the Panthers have a better defense than either Indy or Baltimore.

JACKSONVILLE over Tennessee

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: NL
Jacksonville delivered a solid win over New England. Will they overlook the Titans, especially if Marcus Mariota is on the bench? Not with that defense.

Denver over BALTIMORE

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Ravens -5.5
The Broncos have delivered comeback wins over Seattle and Oakland to start the season. Baltimore might win in a grindfest, but I see the Broncos covering.

HOUSTON over N.Y. Giants

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Texans -3.5
The Texans lost a close road game in Tennessee after falling to New England in the opener. I see the Texans’ defense taking advantage of an immobile Eli Manning and a chaotic Giants’ offensive line.

Sunday, September 23, 4:05pm ET

L.A. RAMS over L.A. Chargers

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Rams -7
That Ram defense is going to take Philip Rivers apart. Will the Chargers’ pass rush have similar success against Jared Goff? It’s doubtful — the Rams have the better running game to keep the Chargers’ D-line honest.

Sunday, September 23, 4:25pm ET

Chicago over ARIZONA

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Bears -4.5
The Bears opened up a 17-point lead at Green Bay in Week 1, only to see the Packers come all the way back. The Cardinals won’t have Aaron Rodgers to save them.

SEATTLE over Dallas

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Seahawks -3
Don’t let that early bomb fool you — the Cowboys have a conservative, plodding offense, and the Seahawks have the defense to stop that sort of attack. And the Cowboys don’t have the containment to keep Russell Wilson from torching them.

Sunday, September 23, 8:20pm ET

New England over DETROIT

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Patriots -7
Tom Brady and the Patriots will be ready to deliver some punishment after getting shut down in Jacksonville, and the Lions’ defense makes a terrific target.

Monday, September 24, 8:20pm ET

TAMPA BAY over Pittsburgh

  • NFL Week 3 Odds: Steelers -3
How is Tampa Bay a home dog when Pittsburgh doesn’t have a pass defense?
