When Kentucky is making headlines for college sports, it’s usually for basketball. But now it’s the football team that’s ranked ninth in the nation and coming in on Saturday to host Georgia in what will determine the winner of the SEC East. Kentucky has won two SEC titles in football, one in 1950 and a shared title in 1976. However, since the conference split into divisions in 1992, Kentucky has not even appeared in the title game, let alone won the whole thing. Kentucky has picked up legitimate wins this year and has some wrinkles to their Wildcat formation and other elements of their running game that could test Georgia. Can the Wildcats pull off this upset? Take a look at our NCAAF betting prediction for Georgia vs Kentucky.

Why should you bet on the Bulldogs?

Georgia pulled away late at The World’s Largest Cocktail Party last week, rolling to a 36-17 win over Florida to stay even with Kentucky atop the SEC East. Jake Fromm shook off the criticism that he had taken after Georgia’s shocking loss at LSU, and his completion rate (67.4%) and TD:INT ratio of 16:4 show that he is ready to take on one of the top 15 passing defenses in the nation. Should Kentucky look to focus on the pass, Georgia has the tailback tandem of D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield (1,025 combined yards and nine scores) to pound the ball. Georgia has covered the spread in nine of their last 13 overall and in 11 of their last 14 games on the road. They have also covered the spread in each of the last five meetings with Kentucky. If you like the Bulldogs, you see their offense continuing to play with confidence against a physical defense and their fast linebackers keeping the Wildcats at bay.

Why should you put your money on the Wildcats?

Kentucky barely hung on against Missouri, winning 15-14 as time expired. Quarterback Terry Wilson is a run-first signal-caller, as he has thrown for just 988 yards and has an unsightly TD:INT ratio of 5:6. He has scored three more touchdowns with his legs and has run for 406 yards on the season. Tailback Benny Snell Jr drives the Kentucky running game, with 960 yards already, along with nine touchdowns. The defense is the real strength for the Wildcats, as they have permitted just 13 points per game, second-best in the nation. Kentucky has only covered the spread eight times in their last 29 games at home — but they have covered in five of their last six games against a team with a winning record. Clearly, there’s a difference between the Kentucky of prior seasons and this year’s edition. If you like Kentucky here, you think that their offense, which has struggled to score the last two weeks against lesser defenses, will break out and surprise Georgia, while their defense will make an LSU-esque showing.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

It’s always exciting to see new teams move into contention, particularly in predictable conferences like the SEC, and simply hosting the game that will determine which team heads to the SEC Championship is a major opportunity for the Wildcats. However, Jake Fromm showed that his crisis was largely a result of playing LSU (arguably the nation’s best defense) in the team’s win over Florida last week. Given the hard time that Kentucky had scoring on Missouri, it’s hard to see them keeping up with the Bulldogs this week. I predict a final score of Georgia 30, Kentucky 16.
