Best ATS Picks for College Football Week 4

Written by on September 19, 2017

The third week of the season brought some real shockers. Did you expect the Mississippi State Bulldogs to rout LSU by 30 points? Then you were definitely on the sports betting minority. Did you think that UCLA would lose at Group of Five foe Memphis despite cracking 40 points? Did you think that Texas would push USC to double overtime? Let’s see what College Football Week 4 has to unfold, and as you plan your betting strategy for the coming weekend, take a look at the NCAAF odds, and some of our top picks to cash in nicely.

College Football Week 4 ATS Picks

Thursday, September 21

South Florida (-25) over Temple (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN)

The Bulls are ranked #21 in the nation and represent the Group of Five’s best shot at a College Football Playoff contender so far this year. They routed the University of Illinois on Friday night, 47-23, while Temple had to fight off FCS foe UMass, 29-21, at home. The Bulls, behind Quinton Flowers — who led the team in both passing yards (280) and rushing yards (106) in their win, should run roughshod over the Owls. I like the Bulls to win and cover.

Latest College Football Week 4 Betting Trends:

-Temple is 12-4 ATS in its last 16 games -Temple is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games -The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Temple’s last 6 games on the road -USF is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games -USF is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games -The total has gone OVER in 12 of South Florida’s last 17 games Saturday, September 23

Michigan (-8) over Purdue (4:00 p.m. ET, BTN)

Purdue did demolish a Missouri team on the road this past weekend, 35-3. However, this is the same Missouri team that lives at the bottom of the SEC East each year. So while that Boilermaker rout is impressive, Michigan comes to town with something to prove. They did beat Air Force, 29-13, showing the ability to control the triple option with their defense, a task that requires both speed and patience at the same time. I see Wilton Speight and the Michigan offense scoring easily on Purdue (remember, Louisville hung 35 on them), and the Wolverines’ defense doing enough to deliver the cover.

Latest College Football Week 4 Betting Trends:

-Michigan is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games -Michigan is 14-3 SU in its last 17 games -The total has gone OVER in 18 of Michigan’s last 24 games -Purdue is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games -Purdue is 2-8 SU in its last 10 games -The total has gone OVER in 12 of Purdue’s last 17 games Mississippi State (+6) over Georgia (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN) If you were checking your eyeglasses when you read the Mississippi State-LSU linescore on Sunday morning, you weren’t alone. Nick Fitzgerald showed that he is the real deal at quarterback for Mississippi State, throwing a pair of touchdown passes and running for two more. They physically manhandled an LSU team that is accustomed to being the more physical squad on the field, as Aeris Williams averaged 6.3 yards per rushing attempt and totaled 146 yards on the night. They showed that they are an SEC West contender — and they have what it takes to stay with a Georgia team that did rout Samford last week but struggled to beat Notre Dame in Week Two. I think Georgia will eke this win out, but take Mississippi State to cover.

Latest College Football Week 4 Betting Trends:

-Mississippi State is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games -Mississippi State is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games -The total has gone OVER in 7 of Mississippi State’s last 10 games -Georgia is 4-9 ATS in its last 13 games at home -Georgia is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games at home Notre Dame (-4) over Michigan State (8:00 p.m. ET, FOX) Michigan State comes in off their bye week with a 2-0 record, but their wins come over some cupcakes, as they took down Bowling Green, 35-10, in their opener and then beat Western Michigan, 28-14. The win over Western Michigan was not very convincing, at least not in comparison with the 49-20 win that Notre Dame delivered over Boston College a week ago to come in at 2-1, with their loss coming at home to Georgia in Week Two. Michigan State still does not have the dynamic offense they had a couple of seasons ago, while Notre Dame has found a way to put down the hammer. I see the Irish coming in and covering against the Spartans. Notre Dame has found a way to put down the hammer.

Latest College Football Week 4 Betting Trends:

-Notre Dame is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games on the road -Notre Dame is 2-6 SU in its last 8 games on the road -The total has gone OVER in 6 of Notre Dame’s last 8 games on the road -Michigan State is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games -Michigan State is 3-9 SU in its last 12 games -The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Michigan State’s last 5 games Texas A&M (-3) over Arkansas (12:00 p.m. ET, ESPN) The Aggies lost in heartbreaking fashion in Week One, losing an historic lead at UCLA, and they struggled in holding off FCS foe Nicholls State in Week Two. Last week saw them trailing Louisiana-Lafayette early before rolling to a 45-21 victory. Arkansas routed Florida A&M in their opener but then only managed a touchdown against a TCU team that gave up 36 to SMU last week. AT&T Stadium will be a raucous place, filled with fans from both sides, but I see the Aggie offense doing enough to hold off Arkansas, who relies so heavily on the run.
