5 Fearless NCAA Football Betting Predictions for SEC in 2018

Written by on August 16, 2018

We’re just a couple of weeks away from the start of the 2018 NCAA Football Betting action, which means that it’s time to start thinking about the races in each of the major conferences. The SEC has a reputation for being one of the top conferences in the nation, with Alabama now sitting as a perennial favorite to win the national championship, but with Auburn and LSU always serving as potential thorns in the side of the Crimson Tide and Georgia emerging as a national contender in the SEC East. We’ve put together five sports betting predictions for you to bear in mind with your SEC wagering for this coming season.

5 Fearless NCAA Football Betting Predictions for SEC in 2018

Georgia and Alabama will meet in the conference final

Last year, Alabama almost missed out on the College Football Playoff altogether, losing at Auburn in the last week of the regular season and missing out on the SEC Championship. If Auburn had been able to beat Georgia, both of those teams likely would have advanced to the playoffs. Georgia won, though, and the playoff committee sent the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide — and Alabama ended up winning the whole thing. I don’t expect Alabama, one of the NCAA Football Betting favorites to win it all, to stumble against Auburn again this year, and the Bulldogs have a relatively easy path through the SEC East, with an early game at South Carolina standing as possibly the biggest test. Alabama will have a new secondary, and Georgia will have new starters throughout their defense, but they have the depth and the system to remain on top. They both have solid quarterbacks, with Jake Fromm returning to lead the Bulldogs and Tua Tagavailoa looking to build on his amazing performance in the national championship.

Auburn will win 10 games once again

Auburn does have to put together a new starting offensive line, but they return quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who stood tall in that big win over Alabama. They will need a new tailback with Kerryon Johnson gone, and they have some holes to fill on defense. The Tigers do face both Alabama and Georgia on the road this season, but their toughest tests other than those two games are a “home” game against Washington in Atlanta and a road game against Mississippi State. Given the gap between Auburn and the rest of the teams below them in the SEC West, the Tigers should have 10 wins, even if they lose to both Alabama and Georgia.

Watch out for Florida

The Gators lost seven games last year, but three of those came by no more than eight points, including losses to South Carolina and LSU. Dan Mullen arrives as the new coach of the Gators, and he will bring a more wide-open approach than the conservative game plan that hampered Florida at times last year. Jordan Scarlett returns at tailback, and the wide receiving corps is solid. The Gators do have a solid secondary and defensive line — and they only have three road conference games, against Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Mississippi State. I don’t see them passing Georgia by any means (or even South Carolina), but this is a team that will cover some lines as an underdog, even if they don’t win outright.

Jimbo Fisher pushes Texas A&M past LSU

Jimbo Fisher followed the armored car from Florida State to Texas A&M, and the Aggies have a lot of talent stockpiled for him. Nick Starkel and Kellen Mond are both terrific quarterbacks, and tailback Trayveon Williams could lead the SEC in rushing. Fisher brings in Mike Elko to run his defense — and the Aggies need to improve thereafter permitting 31 points per game last year. Texas A&M is not a safe NCAA Football Betting pick for the 2018 season. They do return seven starters, and they get to host LSU this year. College Station is a tough place to play, and I see the Aggies finishing behind Alabama and Auburn in the SEC West, but ahead of LSU and possibly even Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Arkansas.

Arkansas will give up a ton of points this year

The Razorbacks host North Texas in a nonconference schedule that is loaded with potential problems. New head coach Chad Morris is an offensive guru, but he failed to put together a decent defense at SMU in his first head gig, and he failed to lure his former defensive coordinator from Clemson to Arkansas with him. The Hogs already had a dreadful defense last year, and they are working in a new quarterback this year. So with short possessions on offense and big questions on defense, I see the Razorbacks on the wrong end of more than a few lopsided scores this year, they are not a good NCAA Football Betting pick.
