College Football Championship: Early Odds for 2024 Season

College Football Championship: Early Odds for 2024 Season

We’re in spring game season in NCAA Football, as programs across the nation open their stadiums to fans eager to see what their teams will look like in the fall. Eight high-profile programs that have big questions going into the fall are hosting their games this Saturday. One of those is Oregon, entering the Big Ten with a new quarterback in Dillon Gabriel, who still has more eligibility and has transferred awawy from Oklahoma after throwing 30 touchdown passes with the Sooners last year. Maryland has five players vying for the starting quarterback position. Nebraska lured freshman Dylan Raiola away from Georgia during recruiting season, and Raiola could take the starting job away from Henrich Haarberg, who was the starter for all five Cornhusker wins a year ago. UCLA has a new head coach in DeShaun Foster, leading his first college program, and a new offensive coordinator in Eric Bieniemy – the genius behind the offense that has won multiple Super Bowl titles in Kansas City. Colorado saw 19 players enter the transfer portal, which means that the Buffaloes will have a host of new talent to work in for the fall. One of the most interesting position battles to watch will be at cornerback, as Travis Hunter will move inside to nickel back where he can cover the slot receiver for the other team. Take a look at the updated sports betting odds for contending teams to win the College Football Championship as well as insights on some intriguing programs.

Win Big the Next Season with the NCAA Football Championship Lines

Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia should have plenty of motivation after their dreams of another undefeated campaign came to a crashing halt in the SEC Championship. Losing to Alabama not only cost them the conference title but also took away their berth in the College Football Playoff. Quarterback Carson Beck returns to lead the offense and is at the top of odds list for the Heisman Trophy. However, the team lost tight end Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey. Tailback Trevor Etienne has transferred in from Baylor to join the rushing game. The defense may be a bit down from a year ago, but the offense could be even better. The regular season is a gauntlet, with games against Clemson, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Texas.

Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State lost Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrsion Jr, but quarterback Will Howard and tailback Quinshon Judkins entered via the transfer portal and should give the Buckeyes an elite offense. McCord struggled at quarterback in the Cotton Bowl, showing that the team needed an upgrade. Howard is still a tier below Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud, but he is an upgrade over McCord. Even in the new and expanded Big Ten, their regular-season journey is easier than Georgia’s.

Texas Longhorns

Texas rolled to a Big 12 championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff, where they fell to Washington. Quinn Ewers returns at quarterback and is another player on the Heisman Trophy shortlist. His offensive line should have most of its starters back, and a pair of speedy wide receivers transferred to Austin. They open their SEC phase with back-to-back games against Oaklahoma and Georgia, and they renew a storied rivalry in their regular season finale when they face Texas A&M. In non-conference play, they meet Michigan in an early matchup. Having 12 teams in the CFP now should help the Longhorns as long as they don’t get overwhelmed by the SEC grind.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon has a road date at Michigan and welcomes Ohio State and Washington at home. Coach Dan Lanning had offers to leave but decided to stay and chase a national title in his new conference. The Ducks should challenge Ohio State for the Big Ten championship. With Gabriel guiding the offense, expect few turnovers (Gabriel posted a 30:6 TD:INT ratio).

2024 College Football Championship Early Odds, April 11th Edition

While the end of March Madness brings a period of calm to sports betting on college sports, the chaos in the NCAA continues to percolate. The demise of the Pac-12 is not likely to be the last seismic change as both Florida State and Clemson have sued to get out of their contracts with the ACC for media rights through 2036. If the Seminoles and the Tigers leave for one of the other power conferences, it will be interesting to see how long the rest of the ACC can stay together. Without true football powerhouses left in the conference, joining forces with the Big 12, which is also top-heavy in basketball but on the weak side in football could be an option. Going into the late spring, though, let’s look at the sports betting odds for the contenders (+10000 or better) to win the next College Football Championship, as well as some insights on top teams.

Early College Football Championship Odds for 2024-25 Season

  • Georgia Bulldogs +325
  • Ohio State Buckeyes +450
  • Texas Longhorns +800
  • Oregon Ducks +1000
  • Alabama Crimson Tide +1100
  • LSU Tigers +1200
  • Ole Miss Rebels +1400
  • Michigan Wolverines +1400
  • Florida State Seminoles +1800
  • Penn State Nittany Lions +2200
  • Clemson Tigers +2500
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish +2500
  • Texas A&M Aggies +3300
  • USC Trojans +3300
  • Tennessee Volunteers +4000
  • Missouri Tigers +4000
  • Oklahoma Sooners +4000
  • Washington Huskies +5000
  • Miami Hurricanes +6600
  • Utah Utes +6600
  • Kansas State Wildcats +6600
  • Arizona Wildcats +7500
  • Louisville Cardinals +10000

Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia has quarterback Carson Beck coming back next year as the Bulldogs look to recover from that season-ending loss in the SEC Championship that somehow sent them all the way out of the top four. Trevor Etienne is transferring in from Florida to provide the Bulldogs a jolt in the running game. Their incoming recruiting class is one of the best in the nation – once again.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama will have to replace a number of key players in their secondary. Quarterback Jalen Milroe will have the opportunity to play a full season as the starter after using the last three-quarters of 2023 to build his confidence and settle into the role. The biggest change will come with new head coach Kalen DeBoer, who came down from Washington after the retirement of Nick Saban. Can DeBoer step into what have to be the biggest shoes in the sport?

Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State might finally be able to stop Michigan now that Jim Harbaugh has left the Wolverines to coach the NFL’s L.A. Chargers. The Buckeyes have a huge hole to fill at quarterback, with Kansas State transfer Will Howard the favorite to slide into the starting role. The Buckeyes do get several of their main defensive contributors back this season.

Michigan Wolverines

Michigan did stop Washington in emphatic fashion in the national championship game. However, they come into 2024 without Harbaugh and without quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The O-line needs a rebuild, as does most of the defense. That’s the problem with winning titles – the players all head to the pro ranks.

Texas Longhorns

Texas looks to have Quinn Ewers back at quarterback, but most of his top targets have moved on. Going to the SEC could lead to major setbacks for the Longhorns, but if they can make it to the conference title game, they would have an excellent resume for CFP selection.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon moves to the Big Ten, and their new quarterback is the ageless Dillon Gabriel, who transferred from Oklahoma with yeat another season of eligibility. Gabriel was able to move the ball well against Big 12 opponents, but we’ll see how he fares against the Michigan and Ohio State defenses.

Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss kept quarterback Jaxson Dart and picked up some key contributors via the transfer portal. Last year, the only teams that beat Ole Miss were Alabama and Georgia. The Rebels did not recruit nearly as well as the Tide and the Bulldogs did, so it will take some more terrific scheming from Lane Kiffin to get the Rebels into the CFP.
