Wednesday’s Best MLB Betting Games, Predictions & Picks

In today’s MLB betting preview, we have a trio of American League matchups to bet on this Wednesday. The Oakland Athletics are in Toronto to take on the Blue Jays, Baltimore is in sunny Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Kansas City Royals try to make a case for wild card contention in Detroit against the Tigers. Before you lock in your wagers, make a final check of injury reports, but also consider our research as you make your picks.

Wednesday’s Best MLB Betting Games, Predictions & Picks

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays

When: 12:10 PM ET Where: Tropicana Field TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / MASN (Baltimore) / Fox Sports Sun (Tampa Bay) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: 105.7 The Fan (Baltimore) / 95.3 FM (Tampa Bay) Pitching Matchup: Ubaldo Jimenez (4-6, 7.19 ERA) (BAL) vs Alex Cobb (8-6, 3.57 ERA) (TB) The Baltimore Orioles continue to send Ubaldo Jimenez out there to start games, but he has really had problems lately. In his last two starts, he has lasted a combined nine innings and permitted 12 earned runs combined. He has started twice against the Rays this year already, posting an 0-1 record with a mammoth 19.06 ERA in those two games. Adelmy Hechavarria (.800 lifetime average), Logan Morrison (.545, 1 HR, 6 RBI), and Shane Peterson (.500, 1 HR, 5 RBI) have all had a great deal of success against Jimenez. The Rays start Alex Cobb, who pitched eight strong innings against Texas in his last start — but then got tattooed in the ninth as the Rangers stormed back for the win. However, he has been on a solid run lately, lasting at least six innings in each of his last eight starts, and posting a 4-1 record and a 2.35 ERA over that time. I like Cobb and the Rays to knock off Baltimore in their series finale.

Oakland Athletics at Toronto Blue Jays

When: 7:07 PM ET Where: Rogers Centre, Toronto TV: NBCSCA (Oakland) / SNET (Toronto) StreamMLB.tv Radio: 95.7 FM The Game (Oakland) / SN590 (Toronto) MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Paul Blackburn (1-1, 2.88 ERA) (OAK) vs Marco Estrada (4-7, 5.52 ERA) (TOR) That 4-7 record next to Marco Estrada’s name isn’t all that bad, but since June 1 he has gone 0-5 with a mammoth 9.52 ERA. In his last 28 innings pitched, he has issued 26 free passes. There may be an injury issue involved, as he wore down in his last start when he went out for the fifth inning, despite the fact that he had only thrown 57 pitches to that point. Rajai Davis (.500, 1 HR, 2 RBI) and Jed Lowrie (.600) have all hit well against Estrada in the past. Paul Blackburn takes the hill for Oakland, and he comes in after taking his first career loss his last time out. The New York Mets tagged him for six hits and four runs over 5 ⅓ innings. The Blue Jays have never faced him, which should give him an advantage the first time or two through the order. Given Estrada’s problems as of late, I like the A’s to win this game up north of the border.

Kansas City Royals at Detroit Tigers

When: 7:10 PM ET Where: Comerica Park TV: FSKC (Kansas City) / FS-D (Detroit) Stream: MLB.tv Radio: KCSP 610 (Kansas City) / 97.1 The Ticket (Detroit) MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Ian Kennedy (3-6, 4.61 ERA) (KC) vs Anibal Sanchez (2-0, 5.95 ERA)(DET) Ian Kennedy has already beaten the Detroit Tigers once this season, as he threw seven solid innings back on June 28, striking out five men. However, he only made it through four innings in his last start, permitting six runs (five earned), ending a streak of four consecutive quality starts. Ian Kinsler (.389, 1 HR, 4 RBI), Alex Avila (3 HR), Jose Iglesias (.429) and Justin Upton (.263, 1 HR, 3 RBI) have all had some success against Kennedy historically. Anibal Sanchez picked up a tough win over Minnesota his last time out, going 5 ⅔ innings and permitting three runs on six hits. He has usually been more durable than this, as this was the first start since June 19 in which he did not finish six innings. Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain and Drew Butera have all homered off Sanchez in their careers — but all of them have a considerable number of at-bats against him, not too surprising since they play in the same division. I like Sanchez to pitch the Tigers past Kennedy and the Royals at home on Wednesday.
