On Tuesday night, the Baltimore Orioles welcome the New York Yankees to town for the first meeting of the season between these American League East rivals. The O’s (14-10) are in second place in the AL East, just ½ game behind the Boston Red Sox. They just completed a four-game split with the White Sox, winning the first two games but falling on Saturday and Sunday, 8-7 and 7-1. The Yankees (8-15) are in fifth place in the AL East having lost five in a row, including a three game sweep by Boston over the weekend. Why Should You Bet on New York?

It’s difficult to argue much for betting on the Yankees in this game. It’s true that only four of the Orioles have ever faced Severino, but Manny Machado and Nolan Reimold already have a combined two home runs off him in six combined at-bats. In Severino’s last start out, the Rangers knocked him out after just three innings, when he had permitted six runs and seven hits. It is a positive sign that Alex Rodriguez hit a home run and a double in Sunday’s loss to Boston, and the Yankees’ offense could be ready for an upswing. However, if I were looking for an underdog to back in this one, I’d probably look at another game.

Why Should You Put Your Money on the Orioles?

The Orioles are enjoying seeing Chris Tillman come around from a poor start on Opening Day. Last Wednesday, he threw 6 ⅔ scoreless innings against the Tampa Bay Rays, striking out nine during that game. The Yankees are having real problems on offense, and when they finally plated seven runs, their pitching and defense gave way, as they committed two errors and Christian Vazquez homered over the Green Monster to break a 6-all tie in the bottom of the seventh inning. Given that the Yankees are struggling in all phases and sending a very shaky Luis Severino to the hill, things look good for Baltimore.
