This is an interesting time of the year for those teams that are no longer in the playoff picture. September is when teams are allowed to expand their roster to 40 players, which means we get to see young prospects take the field. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies are a pair of teams sure to take advantage of that opportunity. They will play the final game of a 4-game MLB betting series on Wednesday night.
Having to achieve that mark only to fall off and have to start again seems to have finally caught up with them, as they are on one of their worst stretches of the season. The D-backs have lost 7 of their last 8, and if you have followed this team at all, you won’t be surprised to learn that this run came right after a sweep of the Cincinnati Reds. Chase Anderson (6-5, 4.22 ERA) has been excellent in his last two starts, and will be looking to keep rolling on Wednesday.
The Colorado Rockies (52-76) have a number of decision to make in the offseason, so the ability to get a good look at what they have in terms of prospects is something they will relish. Both Kyle Kendrick and Justin Morneau will be free agents at the end of the season, and it will be interesting to see if they return or head elsewhere. Both of those players are currently on the DL, but both are expected to be back before the regular season comes to an end. It has been a pretty decent run of form for the Rockies in the past week, as they have gone 4-2, with both of those losses coming at the hands of the red hot Pittsburgh Pirates. Colorado got this series off to a good start with a win on Monday night, and will be looking to continue this good run in the doubleheader on Tuesday. Jon Gray (0-0, 6.00 ERA) will get the start for Colorado.

For the Arizona Diamondbacks (63-68), it has been consistency that has been their major issue all season. This has been especially true with their pitching, as it has gone from looking great to awful in the space of a week or two all season long. This is a team that has been exasperating to watch this season, as they have constantly battled to get over the .500 mark.
