We have a very busy weekend of AHL hockey betting picks coming our way in the American Hockey League (AHL), and while we are still awaiting the odds for all the games, we are going to dive in and see if we can make some winning picks. Specifically, we are going to look at the Dec 12-14 schedule and select a pair of games from each day, so let’s get into it.
Friday Dec 12 Picks
Ontario Reign at Colorado Eagles
This is easily the best game on the Friday night schedule, as it features the top 2 teams in the Pacific Division. Both teams have won 7 of their last 10 games, and their previous meeting ended in a 3-2 win for the Eagles. I think we get another close one here, and I am looking at a similar result for the Eagles on home ice. When the odds are released, I would look at the underdog + 1 ½
Springfield Thunderbirds at Utica Comets
This one is interesting in that both teams are currently sitting in the cellar of their respective divisions. There is a good chance that goals will be at a premium here, with Springfield winning the earlier meeting 2-0. The Thunderbirds are on an upswing in form right now, so let’s take them to win again. This one could lean UNDER.
Saturday Dec 13 Picks
Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Rochester Americans
While both teams are performing well in their respective divisions, they are currently heading in opposite directions. Lehigh has just 3 wins in their last 10 games, while Rochester has picked up points in 7 of their last 10, including 5 wins. Lehigh won the previous meeting, but I like Rochester to get revenge on Saturday night. I think the OVER might be worth a look here, too.
Abbotsford Canucks at Calgary Wranglers
There is actually a lot to go on with this matchup, as this will be the 5th matchup between this pair this season. Abbotsford won the first one, but Calgary has reeled off 3 in a row. The previous meetings have not delivered a ton of goals, so the UNDER might be the way to go here. I would also take Calgary to extend their win streak to 4 over the Canucks.
Sunday Dec 14 Picks
Iowa Wild at Manitoba Moose
I think we should start off the final day of the weekend with what looks to be a pretty straightforward pick. Iowa is at the bottom of the Central Division, winning just twice in their last 10 games. Manitoba is 2nd in the division, although well off the lead, winning 7 of their last 10 outings. Manitoba has won both previous meetings this season, so let’s take them to make it 3 in a row, while also covering -1 ½ assuming that they are the favorite here.
Charlotte Checkers at Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins
We close out our weekend AHL preview with a matchup in the Atlantic Division. The Penguins are currently sitting at the top of the division, although their lead is just a single point after winning 6 of their last 10 games. Charlotte finds themselves in the middle of the pack, but they have also won 6 of their last 10 outings. The Penguins have won both previous meetings this season, so let’s take them to make it 3 in a row.
