Top Baseball Events to Watch in 2026

This is one of the busiest times in the world of sports, as we have March Madness, NBA and NHL playoffs, and the start of the MLB season all on the horizon. There is a lot to unwrap, but for the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on what’s coming in baseball in 2026, so let’s get to it.

Top Baseball Events in 2026

Event Date Overview
World Baseball Classic March 5–17, 2026 International tournament featuring 20 teams competing for global baseball supremacy.
MLB Regular Season & Key Events March–August 2026 Opening Day, All-Star Week, and special showcase games throughout the season.
MLB Postseason & World Series September 29 – October 31, 2026 Playoff series culminating with the World Series championship.
MLB World Tour: Mexico City Series April 25–26, 2026 Regular-season MLB games played internationally in Mexico City.
MLB Spring Breakout March 19–22, 2026 Showcase event highlighting MLB’s top prospects.
NCAA College World Series June 12–22, 2026 College baseball’s championship tournament featuring the final eight teams.

World Baseball Classic (March 5–17, 2026)

The tournament started with 20 international teams, but that number is about to get whittled down rather quickly. Things have been going pretty much as expected, although Italy has been a bit of a surprise. My feeling heading into this tournament was that the US and Japan were essentially on a collision course in the final, and I have to say that given what we have seen to this point, there is nothing to change my opinion on that.

Key storyline: The United States and Japan remain the favorites to meet in the final.

MLB Regular Season & Big Regular Season Events

We are now just a little over two weeks away from the start of the new MLB season. There will be a single game on March 25 between the Giants and the Yankees, with the Opening Day that we all know and love scheduled the day after that one. There are also some unique events coming in the MLB season, so let’s get into those:

  • MLB at Field of Dreams (August 13)
  • MLB Little League Classic (August 23)
  • MLB All Star Week & All Star Game (July 14, 2026)
Special Event Date Details
MLB at Field of Dreams August 13 This classic event has been missing for 3 years, but it returns in 2026, with the Twins and Phillies set to hook up in Iowa for a special one-off game.
MLB Little League Classic August 23 For this one, we head to Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in the midst of the Little League World Series. It will be the Braves and Brewers squaring off here.
MLB All Star Week & All Star Game July 14, 2026 It’s a special year in the US, as it is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Philly seems like a very fitting host for the 96th All-Star celebrations.

MLB Postseason & World Series (September 29 – October 31, 2026)

A lot of the events we have discussed have something of a fun element to them, but by the time October rolls around, the remaining teams will be all business. We will have the Wild Card Games, followed by the Divisional Series, as we slowly head toward the World Series. The bookies like the Dodgers to win it all, but the Yankees and Mets are also considered to be in with a shout. It’s a long way off and a lot of baseball to be played, so only time will tell.

  • Wild Card Games
  • Divisional Series
  • League Championship Series
  • World Series

MLB World Tour: Mexico City Series (April 25–26, 2026)

I think it’s only a matter of time before we see the MLB expand outside of the US and Canada. Mexico City might end up being a franchise destination, and we will have the D-Backs and Padres hooking up there in late April.

International spotlight: Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres in Mexico City.

MLB Spring Breakout (March 19–22, 2026)

Fans are always waiting for the next big prospect to emerge, and they will get a chance to see some of them in the next couple of weeks. The MLB Spring Breakout is where all the prospects get to strut their stuff. Over the course of 4 days, we will see 16 games, all of which will highlight the up and coming starts of the future.

  • 4-day prospect showcase
  • 16 total games
  • Focus on MLB’s rising stars

NCAA College World Series (June 12–22, 2026)

Starting in mid-June, we will have the College World Series coming our way. We will have a total of 8 teams in with a shot at winning it all after they make their way through Regionals. It still feels early to be making predictions, but there seems to be a lot of love for the likes of LSU and UCLA right now.

College World Series Details Information
Teams 8
Dates June 12–22, 2026
Early favorites LSU and UCLA
