We tend to think of baseball as a truly American sport, but the fact that we have players from all over the world playing in the MLB should tell you that it is indeed a global pastime. For the purposes of this piece, we are heading south of the border to talk about the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (LMB), which is the professional baseball league in Mexico. Their season is coming to an end, with just 4 teams remaining in the hunt for the Serie Del Rey, which is the Mexican equivalent of the World Series. If you’re tracking LMB Serie del Rey betting odds, now’s the time to analyze the playoff picture. Let’s take a look back before we make any picks for the remainder of the playoffs.
The LMB Regular Season and Playoff Format
The LMB is comprised of 20 teams that are split between the North and South Conference (10 in each). The top 6 in each conference head into the postseason, with series played over the best of 7 games. We are now down to the final four teams in the hunt for the Serie Del Rey, with Diablos Rojos still alive as they look to win it all for the second straight season. They are the most successful team in the league, ending up as the champions 17 times, while also finishing as the runner-up 17 times.
The Path to the 2025 Serie Del Rey
As we have already mentioned, there are 4 teams remaining in the playoffs, so let’s take a look at the path they took to get to this point:
- Jalisco – You have to say that this is the biggest surprise of the season, as Jalisco ended the regular season as the #6 seed in the North Conference. They faced Monterrey in the 1/8 Round, beating them in 7 games in what was essentially a play-in. They needed 7 games again to get past Laguna and into the semi-finals, where they once again meet Monterrey, and have a 2-0 lead in the series.
- Monterrey – After landing the top seed in the North, Monterrey looked a good bet to go deep. They did lose to Jalisco, but also had an automatic berth into the quarterfinals, where they swept Dos Laredos. They are now going to need to dig out of a 0-2 hole to move on.
- Campecha – They ended the regular season as the #3 seed in the South Conference and have had to work very hard to reach this stage of the proceedings. They needed 6 games to get past Puebla in the opening round and then went to the full 7 games in their quarterfinal matchup against Oaxaca. They are up against the defending champions now, with that series tied 1-1.
- Diablos Rojos – The defending champions made things look very easy in the early stages of the playoffs, sweeping Yucatan in the opening round, and then pulling off the sweep in the quarters, this time against Puebla, who made it in as a second chance team. They took their first loss of the playoffs to Campecha, so that series hangs in the balance.
Who Will Win The Serie Del Rey?
As it stands right now, you have to look at Diablos Rojos as the team to beat, given that they have looked very good in the postseason. Jalisco seem to be on a tear, but can they go all the way as the #6 seed They might be worth a look given their 2-0 semi-final lead.
