Who Are the Favorites to Win F1?

Who Are the Favorites to Win F1?

Looking back over the past decade or so in Formula 1, there have been a pair of drivers that have dominated the proceedings. Lewis Hamilton was the man for a decade or so, but in recent years, it has been Max Verstappen that has ruled the roost. We are basically at the midway point of the 2025 F1 season, and it appears as though we are down to just 3 drivers who can potentially win the World Championship. With 14 races remaining in the season, let’s look at the betting odds for the F1 Championship to see if we can figure out the favorites to win F1.

Who Are the 3 Drivers in the F1 Championship Mix

As mentioned above, we are essentially down to 3 drivers with a legitimate shot at winning the F1 World Championship, and I would even suggest that we are very close to seeing things quickly whittled down to 2. Here are the drivers in question, with their current point total added:

  • Piastri 266 points – This is only the 3rd full season in F1 for the Australian, so you have to say that he has had something of a meteoric rise to the top. He finished 9th overall in his first season, before finishing 4th last year. Piastri has won 6 of the 13 races this season and has only been off the podium twice, so he is in amazing form.
  • Lando Norris 250 points – It is safe to say that McLaren is having themselves a season, as both drivers in the top 2 are with that team. Norris is the more experienced of the two drivers and has made a steady climb to the top, which included a 2nd place finish overall last year. He has 4 wins, and 6 2nd place finishes this season.
  • Max Verstappen 185 points – While you certainly cannot count Verstappen out, it is beginning to look as though he is going to come up short in his quest for a 5th straight World Championship. He has won twice this season, but he is now on a run that has seen him fail to win in 6 straight races. A couple more without a win and he could fall out of the battle.

Which Race is Next and Who Will Win?

The next race on the F1 schedule is coming our way this Sunday, with the Hungarian Grand Prix the next stop. With the race for the championship this close, every single point is important. Verstappen has won this race a couple of times in the past 3 seasons, but he ran 5th last season, which seems to be more in line with how he is performing now.
Norris has finished 2nd in each of the last 2 races in Hungary, so he looks to be a very good bet this weekend. Piastri won in Hungary last season, I can see the McLaren drivers standing on the podium at the end of this race.

Current F1 World Championship Odds and Prediction

With half the season still to come, a lot can change in that time, but I’m not so sure that we will see a dramatic shift. Here are the current F1 Championship odds for the drivers we have discussed:

  • Lando Norris +162
  • Oscar Piastri +162
  • Max Verstappen +500

This is the year of McLaren, and that is certainly reflected in the current odds. I expect the battle to go all the way to the wore, but I think Norris’ experience will lead hm to the championship.
