Betting Liga MX Props and Futures for the Clausura and Apertura Season

Betting LigaMX Props and Futures for the Season

In terms of format, the Mexican Liga MX operates differently from other major leagues across the world. They have 2 seasons (Apertura and Clausura) over the course of the year, with a pair of champions crowned after a playoff at the end of each season. Right now, we are in the Clausura season, which is just 4 games in. This seems like the perfect time to look ahead at who might win it all, and which players might be at the top of the scoring charts.

Current Favorites to Win the 2026 Clausura

As mentioned, we are just 4 games into the season, so don’t be surprised if things change over the next 13 weeks:

Toluca – This is the team that snapped the run of Club America, and who have now won back-to-back championships. They are unbeaten to start the season, but their last 2 games have ended in a draw, which leaves them sitting down in 5th. With Paulinho and Vega up front, Toluca has ridiculous firepower to draw upon.

Cruz Azul – They started the season with a loss, but Cruz Azul has since bounced back, winning 3 in a row to move all the way up to 2nd in the league. One thing that could get in their way this season is the fact that they are in a temporary home stadium in Puebla, which is a couple of hours away from their actual home base. They have also given up the most goals of the top teams, so watch out for that, too.

Club America – One of the most popular teams in Mexico, Club America were on a tear, winning 3 titles in a row before losing to Toluca and being denied their 4th straight. Their start to the season has not been very good, to the point that they would not be in the playoffs if the season ended today. I still think they are good enough to turn things around, but whether they can win it all remains to be seen.

Chivas – Starting the season as a definite dark horse, Chivas is off to a flying start that will almost certainly see their championship odds shorten if their current form continues. They have won all 4 of their opening games, scoring 8 and surrendering just 3 in that time, so they are not riding their luck to get to the top of the table. With a game against bottom of the table Mazatlan up next, expect them to extend their winning streak to 5 games.

Tigres – Again, we have another potential championship favorite off to a less than stellar start to the season. In fairness to Tigres, it has been a crazy start, with a ton of teams all packed tightly together at the top. On paper, Tigres has one of the most talented squads on the league, and you would expect them to become a little more consistent moving forward.

Team Season Narrative
Toluca Unbeaten start, back-to-back champions, elite attacking firepower
Cruz Azul Three straight wins, defensive concerns, temporary home venue
Club America Slow start after historic run, potential rebound candidate
Chivas Perfect start through four matches, strong goal differential
Tigres Talented squad seeking early-season consistency

Top Scorer for the Clausura Season

The obvious choice for the Liga MX top scorer this season is Paulinho of Toluca, as he has won the Golden Boot in each of the last 3 seasons. He has some work to do in the early going, though, as Joao Pedro of Chivas has scored in each of the first 4 games of the season. If Chivas can continue their unlikely start to the season, it will likely be on the back of his goals.

  • Paulinho enters the season as the reigning Golden Boot winner for three straight years
  • Joao Pedro has scored in every match to open the Clausura
  • Early scoring trends may shift as the season progresses
