Why should you bet on the Redskins? The Redskins had a hard time putting away the 49ers last week, and they have their passing game to thank for it. Kirk Cousins went 25 for 37 for 330 yards and a pair of touchdowns (and a pick) in the win. Washington had come into this game off their bye week, while the Niners were playing their third game in a row and had taken an overtime loss against Indianapolis the week before. However, cousins now have 1,334 yards on the season with nine touchdowns and just two interceptions, putting up a 106.4 combined quarterback rating so far. If the Redskins had a more consistent running game, there would be less pressure on Cousins. The Redskins’ defense has not been particularly sharp this season. They got torched by Carson Wentz in the teams’ first meeting this season, giving up 30 points of offense. They also did not look good against the 49ers, giving up 24 points to a team that features the likes of Brian Hoyer and C.J. Beathard at quarterback. Why should you put your money on the Eagles? The journey from FCS quarterback to NFL signal-caller has been a successful one for Carson Wentz, at least up until this point in the season. Against the Panthers, he looked terrific, throwing three touchdown passes against a stingy defense. His favorite target down the field so far this year has been tight end Zach Ertz. LeGarrette Blount picked up 67 yards on 14 carries, which is serviceable enough to take some of the heat off Wentz. However, his poise in the pocket has worked wonders for the Eagles so far this year. The Eagles improvements on defense have been even more striking. The return of Fletcher Cox to the lineup last week made a huge difference, both in the field and the NFL Betting Lines. Cox is one of the best pass-rushing defensive tackles in the NFC, and he nailed Cam Newton just as he was making a throw, interrupting the momentum to set up an interception by Rasul Douglass. If you like the Eagles, then you think that the physical, bruising defense that they have brought so far this year will show up again with the Redskins in town and that Kirk Cousins simply won’t have the time in the pocket to set up and find receivers down the field.
