Why should you bet on West Virginia?

Traditionally a pass-first offense, the Mountaineers were solid on the ground last year, with the #16 program in the nation (and an offense that was #23 overall). Senior Skyler Howard returns to call the signals for an offense that scored at video game pace in their bowl win over Arizona State. He has Dalkiel Shorts, Ka’Raun White and Shelton Gibson as talented wide receivers, and Rushel Shell should be a dynamic tailback, filling the shoes of Wendell Smallwood. The defense has a loaded line around Darrien Howard. The linebackers have Al-Rasheed Benton set to become a standout. The biggest question mark for this team will be the secondary — and Oklahoma could torch them if they’re not careful.

Why should you put your money on the Sooners?

Baker Mayfield returns to lead a dynamic Oklahoma offense, and he has Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine to carry the ball, so teams won’t be able to commit full-bore to the pass rush. Geno Lewis and Dede Westbrook make for an above average wide receiving corps. The Sooners did lose backup quarterback Trevor Knight to Texas A&M, which means that they have to protect Mayfield. On defense, the Sooners ranked #39 in the nation in total defense, which was an accomplishment given the high-octane offenses they face in Big 12 play. Jordan Thomas is an All-American cornerback. As long as the run defense is working, the Sooners don’t get abused by opposing offenses.
