Canadian Hockey WHL Games to Bet on / Futures

If you count yourself as a hockey fan and you want to know where the next great NHL talent is coming from, the WHL betting odds 2025 offer great value across Canadian junior matchups. As the name suggests, this league is home to 23 junior hockey teams based in the western part of Canada and the United States. A lot of future stars are born in this part of the hockey world, and the hockey that the WHL serves is of a very good caliber. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the WHL, followed by some predictions on the upcoming games this evening.

League and Playoff Format in the WHL

As previously mentioned, there are 23 teams taking part in the league, which opened its doors way back in 1966. Just like in the NHL, the teams are split into the Eastern and Western Conferences, with the top 8 teams from each conference heading to the playoffs. The playoff teams battle it out for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, but there is a prize beyond that for the eventual champion, as the winner heads to the Memorial Cup, which is a national tournament that features all the junior champions. There is definitely a level of unpredictability in the league, as we seldom see a repeat champion, which may be bad news for the Medicine Hat Tigers, the current WHL champs.

Preview & Predictions for the Nov 12 WHL Games

There are 3 games on tap for Wednesday night, so let’s dive in and take a look at those matchups and how they might play out.

Lethbridge Hurricanes at Penticton Vees

This is an interesting one in that you have a team sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference going against an expansion team doing better than expected. It is Lethbridge who are in the cellar, but they are still a fun team to watch. Penticton are new to the WHL and currently 3rd in the Western Conference. I think we get a ton of offense here, as well as the possibility of OT, but I think it will be Lethbridge that prevails.

Prince Albert Raiders at Portland Winterhawks

Portland is one of the more iconic teams in the league and always seem to do well when playing at home, as they tend to control the pace of the action. They are middle of the pack right now and just 5-5 in their last 10. The Raiders tend to struggle to score goals when playing on the road, but they are also a strong 3rd period team. That said, they could be in a hole when that final period rolls around.

Victoria Royals at Prince George Cougars

There is a bit of a quirk in the schedule here, as these two are meeting in back-to-back night in the same venue. The Royals struggled to break down the Prince George defense last night, losing 3-1, and I think we are going to see a similar type of outcome in this one. The Cougars have essentially built a defensive fortress on home ice, so I think we get the exact same result as last night.

Who Will Win the Ed Chynoweth Cup?

It’s still early in the season, but if pressed to make a decision on the cup winners this season, I think you have to look at either the Everett Silvertips or the Prince Albert Raiders.
