The Hamilton Tiger-Cats got back to their winning ways this past weekend and now lead the CFL’s East Division by 2 ½ games over the Montreal Alouettes. The Ottawa Redblacks continued their tailspin and lost their sixth in a row — and their second in two weeks to British Columbia, the last-place team in the West Division. Toronto sits in the East basement with a record of 2-10, a half-game behind Ottawa. Winnipeg lost last week and fell into a tie with Calgary atop the West Division, as the Stampeders have won four straight, and both teams sit at 9-4. Saskatchewan is just a half-game back at 8-4. Edmonton has now lost four straight and have a 6-7 record, now just three games ahead of British Columbia. Hamilton at Winnipeg

• CFL Week 16 Odds: Winnipeg -4.5, O/U 48

Hamilton has won five of six, but the road has not been nearly as kind to them as their home field, as they are just 3-3 in their last six games involving travel. Dane Evans remains the starter at quarterback, with an anxiety-producing 11:10 TD:INT ratio. On defense, Hamilton remains stout, permitting just over 20 points per game. Winnipeg has gone just 4-4 in their last eight games, which is why Calgary has been able to roar back into a first-place tie in the West. Matt Nichols does a good job with ball security, with a 15:5 TD:INT ratio, but drives have started stalling, keeping the Blue Bombers from putting up points. The defense is still solid, also allowing just over 20 points per game. Final Score Prediction: Winnipeg 24, Hamilton 18

Saturday, September 28

Edmonton at Ottawa

Something will give in Ottawa on Saturday, as the Eskimos’ four-game skid and the Redblacks’ six-game skid cannot both extend past the matinee. For Edmonton, Trevor Harris remains secure with the ball, with just four picks against 15 touchdowns, but Edmonton struggles to move the ball on the ground, averaging under 90 yards per game. The defense has remained reliable, permitting 22 points per game, but the Eskimos need to score. Ottawa is 0-6 in their last six games at home. Dominique Davis has fallen off the table as far as ball security goes, with one touchdown pass and five picks in his last three games. The Redblacks’ defense has given up more points lately thanks to the short field the opposition has been getting from turnovers, and Ottawa now allows almost 31 points per game. Even playing at home, it is hard to pick Ottawa here. Final Score Prediction: Edmonton 17, Ottawa 13

Saskatchewan at Toronto

• CFL Week 16 Odds: Saskatchewan -6.5 / O/U 49

Saskatchewan comes in having won seven of eight — but just two of their last five on the road. Cody Fajardo’s passing productivity has slowed down a bit, as he has no more than one touchdown pass in seven straight games now. William Powell has ten touchdowns on the ground, but it would be good to see more out of the Roughriders’ passing game. The Argonauts have dropped four of five and three in a row at home. The offense continues to click, as McLeod Bethel-Thompson has at least two touchdown passes in seven of the team’s last nine games, but the issues center on defense, which permits over 32 points per game. I see Saskatchewan opening the offense back up on Saturday night. Final Score Prediction: Saskatchewan 34, Toronto 23 Montreal (+4.5) at British Columbia (49) (10:00pm ET)

Montreal has won seven of their last ten but has dropped three of five on the road. Vernon Adams has 10 touchdown passes in his last five games — but also has five interceptions over that same period of time. The Alouettes’ defense could be better as they permit over 26 points per game. The Alouettes visit a British Columbia team looking for its third consecutive win, although the Lions just ended a four-game road skid in Ottawa. Mike Reilly has a 14:14 TD:INT ratio, so he still needs to work on ball security. BC is now only allowing 27.2 points per game, but they need to show they can defend against a team not called the Redblacks. Final Score Prediction: Montreal 30, BC 23
