In Group D, the United States swept group play, finishing with a 1-0 win over runner-up Panama. The United States finished with a +11 goal differential, one ahead of Mexico, but a group that included Panama, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago was not rife with challenges. Mexico struggled against Martinique, 3-2, in their group play finale, although they were resting a number of key players. Mexico has scored 13 goals in the tournament, conceding just three. Their talent should come through as the starters return in the quarterfinal round. Costa Rica lost in an upset to Haiti in their group play finale despite possessing 71 percent of the match. Panama finished as the runner-up in their group after falling to a United States team that started 11 reserves. Even against that second group, Panama only possessed for 37 percent of the game and put just one shot on goal. Panama did beat Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, scoring six goals in those two wins, but Jamaica’s talent is higher than that of those two squads. Jamaica has a porous defense, conceding three goals in three matches in the softest group in the tournament. When Curacao and Honduras can score, that shows issues on the back line, and Panama can make opponents pay with their attack. Final Score Prediction: Panama 2 – Jamaica 0

• USA vs Curacao (Philadelphia) (8:00 pm ET, ESPN)

Curacao pulled out a 1-1 draw against Jamaica in their group play finale, possessing for 58 percent of the game — without that point, they would not have advanced. It took a goal from Jurien Gaari in injury time for Curacao to get that point. The United States possessed for 62 percent of the game against Panama, getting a goal from Jozy Altidore via a bicycle kick in the 66th minute. The USA has 11 goals in three matches and has posted three clean sheets.
