Updated 2019 World Series Odds – March 14th Edition

Philadelphia rocked the free agency world in Major League Baseball when they signed Bryce Harper to a 13-year deal worth $330 million, making Harper the centerpiece of baseball in the City of Brotherly Love for the foreseeable future. Harper immediately got to work trying to lure Mike Trout to come east, drawing the ire of the Los Angeles Angels. Meanwhile, such free agents as Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel continue to look for work for the 2019 regular season. With spring training well underway, it’s time to take another look at the latest MLB betting odds for futures wagers on 2019 World Series champs. We have the moneylines as well as perspectives on several of the contenders.

Boston Red Sox

Boston should be a serious contender to repeat — although it’s worth noting that no World Series winner has repeated since the Yankees ran off three in a row from 1998 until 2000. The Red Sox still have arguably the best starting rotation in all of baseball, but the bullpen is a concern with the departure of Joe Kelly for the Dodgers and the fact that Craig Kimbrel, the Red Sox closer, remains unsigned. If Boston can’t shore up the back of the bullpen, that could spell disaster down the stretch. But as far as a batting order and starting rotation, the Red Sox will be hard to beat.

Washington Nationals

This is an interesting dark horse despite the loss of Bryce Harper. They have had talented lineups in the past but, despite a lengthy run of National League East titles, have never made it past the Division Series. The Nationals did pick up Anibal Sanchez, Matt Adams and Patrick Corbin in free agency, and it will be interesting to see if the loss of a marquee player will actually galvanize the clubhouse and motivate some of the other talent on the roster to start producing more regularly.

Philadelphia Phillies

They have Aaron Nola and Jake Arrieta atop their starting rotation, J.T. Realmuto at catcher, and an outfield with Andrew McCutchen and Bryce Harper in it. What could stop the Phillies from rolling through the East and the playoffs? The lack of a third solid starting pitcher could hurt if someone else doesn’t develop, and questions exist about the Phillies’ bullpen. Their home stadium, Citizens Bank Park, is hitter-friendly, with small dimensions, so the Phillies can give up the long ball in crucial moments.

Cleveland Indians

The Indians are sliding down the odds table, and perhaps rightly so. Eponymous reliever Andrew Miller is now in St. Louis, and the Tribe has also dealt away Yonder Alonso and Edwin Encarnacion — and ace Corey Kluber could be next. So even though the Indians play in the weak American League Central, it looks like they are heading for the rebuild shop — which means the Twins could snatch the AL Central title this year.

Milwaukee Twins

These guys bring the reigning National League MVP back in Christian Yelich, but they are not getting much respect from the bookmakers despite rolling to the National League Championship Series last year. One reason for this is that their rotation remains in flux after the team lost several front-line starters to free agency. The Brewers made some additions, but it remains to see whether or not they will be able to pitch at the same level of quality. If so, Milwaukee could make more noise in the NL Central, but while the Cubs appear to be on the decline, the Cardinals are making a bid to fill that vacuum as well.
