Early Wimbledon Tennis Betting Analysis: Best Players To Bet On

Early Wimbledon Tennis Betting Analysis: Best Players To Bet On

Written by on January 12, 2023

The third Grand Slam tennis event of 2023 will come in July, as the Wimbledon Tennis Championships will run from the 3rd to the 16th. Last year, Wimbledon lost its status in terms of points, as the All-England Tennis Club decided to ban players from Russia and Belarus because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The war still drags on, but Russian and Belarussian players can once again participate, so this year’s edition will confer full points. As you consider whether or not to engage in early Wimbledon betting on the outcome, take a look at some thoughts about some of the contenders in the singles draws.

Tennis News: 2023 Wimbledon Betting Preview

Men’s Singles

The defending champion is Serbian Novak Djokovic, who needed four sets to end the surprising run of Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in the final, prevailing 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.

Daniil Medvedev will be able to complete at Wimbledon this year, with the player bans lifted. His best result at Wimbledon came in 2021, when he made it to the fourth round. His best Grand Slam result in 2022 came at the Australian Open, where he made it to the final before falling to Rafael Nadal.

Alexander Zverev has made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon twice, in 2017 and 2021. He also made it to the fourth round att the Austrlian Open, but his best Grand Slam result last year came at the French Open, where he made it to the semifinals before retiring due to injury.

Rafael Nadal is the other venerable veteran to go along with Djokovic. He has won Wimbledon twice, but it’s been 13 years since his last victory (his titles came in 2008 and 2010). He made it to the final last year before losing to Djokovic. He won the Australian and French Opens last year but did not play at the U.S. Open due to lingering foot injuries.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon, and he has not gone that far since 2018. He made it to the third round last year. His best 2022 result came at the Australian Open, where he advanced to the semifinals.

Casper Ruud is better on other surfaces then on grass at this point, as he has only a 33% winning percentage on the lawn in his career, although he has only played a dozen competitive matches on the surface. He lost in the second round at Wimbledon last year, his best career result; he did much better at the Australian Open, where he was the runner-up to Nadal.

Ladies’ Singles

Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan won her first title at Wimbledon last year, needing three sets to take down Tunisian Ons Jabeur, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Iga Swiatek dominated women’s tennis last year, but she only made it to the third round at Wimbledon last year. Her best result came in 2021, when she made it to the fourth round. She won the French Open in 2022, but picking her to win on the grass might not be the best pick.

Anett Kontaveit only made it to the second round at Wimbledon last year and has never made it past the third round (although she has advanced that far three times).

Maria Sakkari has advanced to the third round at Wimbledon three times (2017, 2019 and 2022) but has gone no farther.

Paula Badosa Gibert is still waiting for her first Grand Slam title but has made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon twice, in 2021 and 2022.

Ons Jabeur made it to the Wimbledon final last year, where she fell to Rybakina, and has a 76% career winning percentage on grass.

Garbine Muguruza won Wimbledon in 2017 but only has a 61% career winning percentage on the grass. Last year, she crashed out in the first round.

Cori Gauff has a 75% winning percentage on grass, so she has the skills to break through here eventually. Her best Wimbledon results came in 2019 and 2021, when she advanced to the fourth round; in 2022, she lost in the third round.
