Liberty vs Oregon Odds for the 2024 Fiesta Bowl

Liberty vs Oregon Odds for the 2024 Fiesta Bowl

We will find out if the Liberty Flames truly are the best Group of Five team in the nation when they take on the Oregon Ducks in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day. They ended the 2023 season ranked, at least by the College Football Playoff committee, ahead of SMU and Tulane thanks to their 13-0 season. SMU and Tulane both posted underwhelming performances in their bowl games, losing to Boston College and Virginia Tech, respectively. The Ducks had visions of a College Football Playoff berth, but those visions vanished when the Ducks lost to Washington in the Pac-12 Championship, and now they enter as heavy favorites over the Flames. Will the Ducks come in motivated to make a statement, or will they play listless ball, disappointed by this bowl berth? Read on to get our NCAAF betting prediction between Liberty vs Oregon.

Why should you bet on the #23 Liberty Flames?

The best reasons to bet on Liberty come from other scores on the college football bowl schedule – this year and before. Remember Tulane beating USC last year? Remember TCU toppling Michigan in the national semifinal? Of course, we learned that TCU caught on to Michigan’s sign-stealing scheme and faked some of their signals, so that win turned out not to be so surprising, especially when TCU lost by 58 in the national championship game.

So if Liberty can cover, let alone win straight up, it will happen for one of the following reasons: Oregon comes in overconfident; Oregon isn’t interested in the game; crazy things happen in special teams, such as a punt or field goal block for a touchdown. It won’t happen because Liberty has any business being on this field.

Why should you put your money on the #8 Oregon Ducks?

The Ducks have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Bo Nix, who is not opting out of the last game in his college football career. He led the country in passing touchdowns (40) and threw for 4,145 yards, and Oregon ranked second in the nation in passing offense, total offense, and points scored. While Liberty posted that 13-0 record and won the Conference USA title, they did not play any team with a top-50 scoring offense.

Also, Oregon had the third-fewest turnovers in the nation, while Liberty ranked 14th in the most giveaways. Liberty’s defense gave up 25 points against UMass, 28 points against Texas-El Paso, and 35 points against New Mexico State. If Oregon’s players are interested in this game at all, scoring 50 or 60 points could happen very easily. While Oregon did allow 34 points in the Pac-12 Championship, they held Oregon State to seven, Arizona State to 13, and Utah to six. All of those teams are better than Liberty.

Liberty vs Oregon Final Score and Prediction for the Fiesta Bowl

If Oregon shows up ready to make a statement, the score for this game should be something along the lines of 55-24. But will they? Your guess is as good as mine. It helps that Nix is playing instead of opting out for the draft, of course. I don’t bet heavy on bowls because of all of the nonsense involved, particularly in bowls that don’t have a path to a national championship. The smart money here is on Oregon to cover.
